SPS Shopping

Well, I did end up going back to Cap Bay. I got 3 pieces for $50 I think it was. Frag size pieces. I got 2 that were really nice and have nice blueish tips, and I got 1 red cap. I didnt really want the red cap, I wanted to hold out and order a nice cap frag online. Something a bit more unsual in color, or having an unusual rim or something.

There are a few more pieces I will probably head back for if they are there in a few weeks, but they were a bit more money and bigger.

David

Best selection in the area. I love buying frags for a few reasons, budget being one of them but the smallest reason. I keep tanks that are pretty small, so to have a decent variety I HAVE to have smaller corals. I also love to watch a small piece actually turn into a colony.

The selection is very nice, they just fragged a lot of things up. They also have a lt of nice frags of Zoos and other corals from time to time. Both frags I offered Sharkboy in his seeking corals threads started as frags from there as well, one of them is from a pic of when it was a frag, and the other is a newer pic of a frag that has since grown.

I know this is a variable question. but on average; how fast do corals grow? say an SPS. is it like an inch a year or an inch a month?

how often can you frag them then? if I buy a frag, about how long would it be before Id be able to frag it and have it in other places in the tank? also so I can do some frag trades, Id rather spend a decent amount today for a frag if its something people would want to trade other rarer types for later to populate the tank.

but obviously, I dont want to wait 5 years for the first frag to really start filling the tank in

It is way too dependant on the coral. Some you will notice the growth in the first month, some it will be killing you. Fot a frag to turn into a colony may take a little bit.

Monti Cap and Monti Digi grow pretty quick, I think some of the ones I grabbed are slow growers, but they are real nice. The frag of orange monti on the other hand you can notice the growth in pics that are different from like 3 weeks time.

Your calcium and other conditions will make a difference too. The more SPS you have the more calcium suppliments will come into play, but make sure your testing ifyour dosing, this applies to dosing anything. I have small tanks so I just use B Ionic, no reactor.
