the megalodon's evolution... can be seen through teeth. first was the mackeral shark, which had a unserrated tooth with large cusps. next was the auriculatus, with serrations smaller cusps, and similar shape. Next was the angustidens, larger teeth smaller cups, bigger serrations, next was the chubutensis, almost as big as a meg, and with very small, almsot invisable cusps, lastly, the megalodon reaching a tooth size of seven inches, no cusps, and razor sharp serrations.

I guess we know why you picked sharkboy as a username. Truly impressive collection. Did you buy or collect them?

Nice teeth sharkboy! I'm guessing you bought most of those since you state on a couple that you found them? I have quite a collection myself, The dredge site that a majority of those St. Johns river teeth came from is right around the corner from my house......In addition to the sharks teeth I have also found Dolphin teeth, Alligator teeth, 3 toed horse teeth, Baby mastadon milk molar, mastadon molar, barracuda teeth and numerous other cool fossil finds!
My personal favorite, although the megaladons are always impressive, are the Hemipristis teeth from the SnaggleTooth shark. Something about that shark tooth has always impressed me when I find them. Not huge, but beautiful in their form!
Very cool teeth you have collected, They can be an addictive hobby like reefkeeping......I used to fall asleep and have pictures of them in my mind laying everywhere. Reminds me it might be time to visit some old dredge depots soon...

i bought 95% of them, i've found two smaller megalodon teeth. I'm, going to start diving for them this year and next year, as i dive i'll share my finds with everyone.
Tim224dt, thats a beautiful mako tooth! Did you find it?
Sharks were the whole reason why i got into this hobby, i just love the ocean so much! I'm trying to find some large teeth to say that i found them myself, but time is the biggest issue. i'm adding a bright orange megalodon tooth to my collection soon, its from bone valley florida, and 2 1/8 inches long, the color is what makes it a special tooth.

reelfreak... you are so lucky to have those deposits so close to your house! I'd be out there every day looking for teeth! Hemipristis teeth are very cool teeth i agree, i have some very nice, near perfect teeth that i collected from Aurora, NC. They are beautiful, tan crown, white root, and black bourlette. Have you found any large megalodon teeth from the river deposits? If you dont mind, i'd love to see pics of what you've found!

I'm sitting at work right now, and my computer at home is fried....I only get to play on the internet at work right now. I'll try to snap some pictures though and eventually post them.
I have found many Megaladon teeth, a majority of them have some flaws but I do have some that are almost perfect. I don't know how many I even have but I certainly wouldn't try to count them it's that many. Some of my most impressive teeth in color and condition are Great white and Mako teeth......My brother also found what I think was a CowShark?? It's actually a row of teeth rather than single teeth.....My favorite colored teeth are the brown, oranges, white, cream mixed types. I even have some that are red and pink swirled. Amazing the different colors they "morph" into while fossilizing.
I have a book from Frank Garcia which shows him collecting from the very places I go to. I'm guessing you know who he is? Definitely a leading authority on fossils, particularly Shark teeth. There is a local dentist office here who has an entire jaw of a megaladon reconstructed w/ teeth in their reception area. The Seafood place just down the street from where I work has a full jaw as well, although it's about 5-6' across or so.....
Sharks tooth hunting was a passion of mine for many years, and I think you might have just re-kindled that passion!!
These same hunting grounds have also yielded me Indian spearheads and some broken pottery!!
Cool thread shark boy! Here's a beer to it (if you're old enough )

i'm glad i have re-lit that spark in you... shark tooth hunting has been a hobby of mine since i was five. I go to Venice FL every year to beach hunt, this'll be the first year ill get to dive! I've collected Aurora mine reject material which yield beautiful teeth, but not large teeth. I want to dive the cooper river.. as crazy as it seems i really want to! I'm also planning to dive Wilmington, NC next summer to retrieve large meg teeth in 110 foot deep water... i can't wait!

I also love sharks teeth. I have had several. I went to Amelia Island this year for vacation. I bought a sharks teeth guide for the area. They said you could find many types on the beach. I got up at 6:30 in the morning with my mp3 player and walked the beach looking for them. I found none. I am getting my dive cert before this year is pver. Maybe next year a couple of us could meet in FL and go diving? By the way I love your collection of teeth! They are great!

I LOVE amelia island! It has changed alot though, i always have found teeth, but now they are harder to find. I friend of mine has found 46 megalodon teeth from the island (on the beach) over he many years of searching, he found a 5 inch tooth there, but now that'd be impossible to find.I always visit a store there named the ships lantern, I always buy atleast one meg there each time i go!
Yeah once you get a certification it'd be awesome to meet and go diving. Venice is the safest diving for teeth compared to other places, so thats where to do it
