Pulsing xenia

I picked up this frag and it is not attached to a rock. When I tried to put it in a hole in my LR it moved to the bottom of the tank in some sand. Of course, I tried moving it several times. Any suggestions?

Thru the actual xenia? Glenn brought a brown leather coral home last night w/ a toothpick thru it. Not to sound stupid, but this won't kill my xenia? Where and how do I do this? Thanks again for the mags!!

No

THERE IS NOTHING IN THIS WORLD THAT WILL KILL XENIA EXCEPT FOR THE TOLIET.....LOL.....

I frag it out often and I put it on a rock and wrap it with bridal veil that you can get at walmart in dress making section. It works well and you don't hafta chase the xenia all over the tank. It stays put!......Just wrap a rubberband around the rock and everything will stay....

remove the bridal veil in about 2 weeks and it will be attached.

Hope that helps.

You have GOT to be kidding me? Ok, one more question. I "assume" that I can't put it too tight, otherwise it won't grow?!? Thanks for replying instead of just reading the thread!!!

Yep, done that before, works great....

Pretty soon you won't be able to give the stuff away fast enough.
Sometimes I think I weed my tank more then my yard.

A little loose is better, but Xenia can take just about anything.

Yeah, I agree, the stuff is almost indestructable. Even if you cut it off at the stalk, if any of it remains on the rock at all, it will grow back. Actually, I usually see little baby xenias within 24 hrs.

Had to meticulously clean the rock that had it before putting it in my new tank. Threw the little peices in a 10g and they are attaching to the glass, the filter, any nearby rocks, other corals...

I've even seen the stuff growing on the shell of a hermit crab.

With all that said, I've heard of some people that can't grow it at all ( I'd like to hear their secret).

I know one way to kill it. Convince a BTA to wonder beside it for a few days. Ours killed every Xenia frag it touched in about a week. We started with one stalk many months ago (Thanks RAY!) and we are only up to two because of the BTA attack. The BTA has since moved on, but the dead stalks did not come back. However, the living stalk is growing very well...maybe, too well.

What is a BTA. I am one of the few people in the world that has a hard time with Xenia. I have perfect water...acording to recent test at Aquarium Showcase and am keeping hammer corals, brain corals, shroom and polyps with no problem.

Sometimes "perfect" water isn't so good for Xenia. It's a lagoonal coral that likes dirty water.... well, not too dirty.

Iodine is also great for xenia. If you really want to get serious - get some Lugol's Solution and watch your xenia grow like kudzu.
