Please Help!!

Well, when it rains it pours!! Yesterday I bought my new setup, Oceanic Reef Ready 150 with tons of goodies and spent the next 16 hours tearing it down and building it up again. Pretty much everything is in order, although i havent put the tank on yet, just did stand cleaning and sump plumming and what not. The problem is that in the middle of all this, i wake up this morning and my old clownfish (clarki) is sick!! He has some white crusty stuff around one of his eyes!! He's active and dominant as usual, feeding fine, but sure looks rough!! Can anyone tell me what this is? I have no good digital to take pics though. If anyone wants free food and beer they can have the time of their life helping nurse a sick clown and set up a 150 in snellville!!

have you changed anything in the clown's tank yet?

sounds like some stress may have brought out some sickness... a small water change and leaving everything else alone for a while may help. Too much tinkering can stress out everything.

also, try to make sure the clown is still eating through all of this... but don't put too much food in the tank, as it can raise other levels that can harm and not help.

good luck

J

thanks, you're right he may be stressed but still eating, this clown is huge- we've had him over 5 years and hes always been healthy. Its only one eye that seems to be affected, I've been reading WWM clownfish disease pages and it may just be an injury. Not done checking into it yet.

also, you may want to soak his food in some Selcon or use some vitamins for the short term.

there's some controversy on the use of this, but I don't think it can hurt anything (except your wallet!)

Yes, and perhaps some garlic to entice him to eat. I always fortify all my critter foods.

He'll probably be fine. I have been monkeying around in there a bit too much lately. He's still eating and acting normal, just this recurring infection that has me bugged. 150's full and running good though, should be able to switch everything over next weekend!
