Placement of fans in hood?

Just curious how others have placed their fans in their canopies. I have 2 temp controlled 4" guys on the way and I was curious what the best mounting location would be to cool things down.

Thanks,

Mike

I have 1 blowing in on one side and one pulling out on the other. They are also 4" temp controlled fans, and they do their job well. With 2 250w halides and 2 96w PCs, the temps stay between 78 and 81 degrees (depending on ambient temps)

Have you had any problems with rust or salt creep on the fans? Someone once mentioned that if it was blowing out there could be problems. Are they blowing directly across the bulbs?

mine are blowing along the length of the bulbs but either way will work. i have both fans blowing in for the salt reason. and the fact that i dont want to have salt water vapors blowing on my walls any more than i have to either. both of my fans are mounted inside the hood so they dont protrude also. this way it looks cleaner and the wires are never seen from the outside.

what are the specs for your hood? size, PC's, VHO's, halides? Is there a glass or plexi divider/splash shield?

from my experiance the best thing to do is have your lights in a top section with an in fan and an out fan and a splash sheild below em. then in the part between the splash sheild and the water have a in fan right under the halide(if you have one) and an out somewhere else.

thats how im running the hood on my 15g with a 150w halide and 130w of PC's and my temps barly get over ambient with the fans on. you can see the pics in my DIY post below

55 gallon with 2x250 SE halides. I have ordered a glass top for it as well as 2 4" variable speed temp controled fans. Currently they are just in a wooden hood that is totally enclosed minus a 1.5 inch space in the back. The 20 L sump is open as is the back of the stand.
