Painting back of tank.

I'm thinking about painting the back of my tank black (outside of course) so it will bring out the color of what I will have in it. Is there a special type of paint I should use or would any paint be good enough??

I used a basic latex based paint to paint the back of mine. Got everything at Home Depot.. I also painted mine black.. At home depot they have small paint rollers and had to apply a few coats but did not even use a full pint of paint..

Go to Walmart and go to the arts and craft section and get gloss black paint from that section if you read the label it will state that is for porous and non-porus(sp.) material. made for painting glass. I just painted my 110 black. It took 2 bottles. $3 each . give it about 2 or 3 days to dry and paint it lying face down for best result and it is easier that way. Mine came out looking great.

Spray paint! Did my 29 holding tank that way and it worked much easier than roll on or brush on (did the 55 and the 180 with roll on/brush-on paint).

the latex based paint will be a lot easier to remove if you ever have to for some reason.. it also dries much much faster.. and to make it dry even faster just get a hair dryer and it will do the job. Less than 2 hours total (start/finish) for my 72g bowfront

The pictures below show what we used to spray paint the back of our 135. We masked everything off except the backsides of the overflows (wanted to be able to see them from the back and ends). After masking we cleaned the entire glass surface with denatured alcohol to remove all grease and grime. Then we started spraying. It took 1.5 cans to cover the entire backside. A great tip we heard was to place a desklamp or droplight inside the tank so you can see the thin spots. It worked like a charm!

Have fun
