One seahorse tank, coming up!

Here's my old 75 gallon cichlid tank converted to what will be my seahorse tank. The lights are CoralLife Aqualight 48" 260w set up. And I've got a SeaClone, yes I said SeaClone, 150 skimmer. I was able to use the Emperor 400 filter and exisiting heater and powerhead directly from my cichlid tank. The corals came from my reef tank and actually look happier in the new tank.

As soon as I get some horses, I'll post more pictures.

Cheers...Michael

PS...thanks to Jenn for the advise in putting this together.

Thanks. I should be able to start putting seahorses in the tank in a couple of weeks, local stock permitting. I plan on only putting in captive bred horses and I've really rotten luck with mail order live stock.

Cheers...Michael

The reason I went with that big a tank was - cus it was there. Pretty dull answer, huh? I was planning on putting up a 20 gallon tall in my bedroom, but got to thinking about it and decided that I wasn't ready for a third major tank and I had been getting tired of the cichlids so...one (sorta) instant 75 gallon seahorse tank became my bset option.

It's not so much that seahorses prefer a smaller tank, its that they can't spend too much of their energy searching for food. I'm planning on having a LOT of horses in that tank so no matter where I drop the food in, they'll be able to get it. For now I'll be target feeding.

I'm not really sure want the water flow is to tell you the truth. It's got pretty good movement in the tank though. I put my first fish, a purple firefish, into it yesterday. It seems happy enough. I might try to get my first horses next weekend. I'll see how it goes. I'm not rushing this tank along.

Cheers...and thanks...Michael

Stick with Jenn on the seahorse advice, I don't know of
many other people that know as much about them as
she does.

Great looking tank btw, keep us posted on the progress.

Jenn's been very helpful in this aleady. Expensive, but helpful...

good thing i'm a club member, or I'd NEVER be able to afford this tank.

Cheers...Michael

Expensive --- it's all relative.

If you bought cheap mail order and didn't get the good advice --- then that might have cost you much more in the long run not to mention all the agrivation.

I think everyone in this hobby realizes that LFS are not the cheapest solution --- but if you get good advice and they are willing to help and support you in your setup then they are usually the best solution.

like i said...i've had nuthin' but rotten luck with mail order fish. Jenn's given me great advise and i plan to continue to patronize her store for my live stock needs. just like i've patronized many of the fine, and a few not so fine, lfs in area.

and you're right expensive is a relative term. i think anyone's who's read my past posts before ARC was moved will relaize that i'm all for buying livestock locally.

Cheers...Michael

Just curious ... what'd you do with your cichlids? I have a 55 gallon tank with 22 cichlids that need to find a new home.
