OK, so I go the the auction today..
and come back with a tank! (didn't plan on that!) It is small (25 gallon), but perfect for the office in my house. Anyway, I want to something different with it. Trigger tank or something. What can I do with that size tank that may be unique?
I have about 60 pound of that Carribean sand in there now and I began the cycling process this afternoon. So I figure I have a month or so to come up with something. I threw in about 9 pounds of LR this afternoon to start it off.
I could use some LIVE SAND to seed my dead sand if anyone has some to spare?
Hey Ray and Bob, that tropical play sand may be what everyone wants, but it isn't that easy to set up in the tank. I washed and rinsed that stuff twice and it still is just a big milky mess in that tank. I hope it settles soon. Pretty ugly right now.
Anyway, on to tank 2. I think I have reef disease. Any cure?

Hey Todd:
It's good to finally place a face to a name...hope you enjoy the tank . You'll have a "Southdown Snowsorm" at first, but it will settle down over the next few days.
As for the trigger, a 25 gallon tank is awfully small for a FO, especially a trigger. Triggers are known as messy eaters that produce a lot of waste, so putting one in that can foul up the water in short order .
I was going to set up a nano in it, but I can across a 20L at petsmart a few weeks ago. I think others would agree that it would make a good seahorse tank as well. Good luck!

Hey Micheal! Nice to meet you as well as well as the others. As for a seahorse tank, one word, never!
I agree with the trigger thing as well. but I need some action. maybe a nemo only, just breed them or something. let them have fun?
Seahorses are just boring to me. I 'll fugure something out.
Nice meeting those that showed up!! Sorry I will not be at Tuesday's meeting but business calls to the islands, mon!

actually...
With a sump to double your water voume, it might just be a great tank for a clown and some miscellaneous soft octocorals, Sarcophyton, Nepthea, Claudella, Lemellia, Sinuaria, etc spp. and a single clownfish and the cleanup crew would be a great little tank, a single MH 175 watt fixture and a small VHO pair of bulbs sould make that tank a perfect lagoonal setup. Mushrooms and zooanthiids across the bottom to finish it out.
just a suggestiion, depending on how far along you are, might even consider a species tank for an anemone (BTA...) and a clown pair, but that would stretch the bioload without an oversized sump.

Sonething that size you could do a very interesting tank. Soem species that come to mind for a smaller tank (with a good skimmer and sump) are a fu-manchu lion or fuzzy dwarf lion, viper eel, some of the smaller sharp nosed puffers, or maybe some of the file fish. A trigger would really liven things up and some of the file fish stay quite small as do the dwarf lions. You could probabyl do 1 viper eel, 1 fuzzy or fu manchu lion and a file fish. Also these fish tend not to bother corals all that much, but you will have to make sure and use some form of adhesive or wire to make the rock work secure. The file fish and the eels are notorious for displacing loose rock.
I currently have 2 puffers, a black volitan, a large naso tang, a blue stripe grouper and an eel in my 180. They are all the larger variety, but none have messed with any of the corals withthe exception of the dogfaced puffer. He is mildly blind from some eye copepods that he arrived with and I think he might have taken a bite out of my leather coral on accident...maybe mistaking it for a piece of something good. I would get the corals in there first if you desire corals then add the fish...they tend to view them as just part of the surroundings then. Whenever I add new corals to the 180 they all have to investigate them and make sure it is not food...always makes me nervous, lol.

I have a 20 gal tank that I am using for seahorses, but MUCH research and planning has gone into this setup, so I've had to spend most of my time reading and learning about their specific needs.

I like Tom's suggestion. Especially for those corals that don't need a great deal of lighting. Justin's tank is a 20 gal tank with 3 clownfish and a BTA, rock anemone, and a hairy mushroom. The clowns kinda go from anemone to anemone, and he is using 192 watts of PC's currently. (The BTA needed more light IMHO). All anemones are doing well, and the colt babies and xenia frags that he "accidently" pulled out of mine or lisa's tank while helping us clean our tanks are doing well as well.
Ray
PS. Todd, let me know which meeting you will be at , and I will give you plenty of xenia and more than a couple of colt babies.
Ray
