mystery snail outbreak

well for the last 2-3 months I have had a burst of new snails populating my tank. They have a flat oval appearence sort of like a limpet but apon cleaning out the beckett injector on my skimmer I now know that the inside of the shells have the "mother of pearl" irridescent look. (anyone else amazed at how many snail shells can get packed into a beckett?). funny thing is no new rock was added to the system for at least a year. can snail eggs lay dormant that long waiting for the right conditions to hatch? quick search says they can be abalone from cali, fiji, florida golf, just about anywhere. most recent rock added to tank was from Dale's (in dalton) stock when he shut down his in home critter biz. they eat algea quite well. but again this was a while ago. anyone else have this type?

Do they look like this? None of these are over 1/4" across for reference.

no similiar color pattern but mine do not grow in a spiral.
some are just a solid light brown. others have a speckeled hite and brown stripe pattern.

more wierd info, they move FAST! tried to pull one of the glass to look at it, shell popped off. shell only covers about 50% of the body. body cannot retract into shell, shell is more like a helmet. barely tapped one and it just TOOK OFF. never seen a snail move that fast, could see the foot rippling as it went like a row of centipeed legs it was going that fast. feed at night. have one that has a "fuzzy" body to it. sort of like a carpet fuzz ball with a shell on it. grow fairly fast. no camera so no pic. will search web to see if I can find one. honestly, I cant beleive how fast that sucker zipped off.
