my tank build thread...

well, everyone and their mom is doin this, so i guess i will too...i have a 55 gal tank that has been set up for a little over a month, and the stand is tiny so im building a new one... i am gonna include step by step instructions and pictures in case anyone else wants to do this.. it is a very practical, sturdy, and not too pricy plan...

im goin to get the lumber tomorrow, so hopefully i'll start then...

LilB,

where are you getting your lumber? If you're going to build this as a skinned 2x4 frame, I would suggest you only get the 2x4s from a home center like lowes or HD and get the hardwood that you'll use for a skin from a lumber yard, esp. if you are comfortable with squaring up your stock. HD and Lowes charge absurd amounts for their hardwoods (pine and poplar too).

Also be very picky about selecting wood, no matter where you purchase it (Sorry if you already know all this), make sure you check both length and width for squarness (just eyeball it).

You better get a new camera while you're at it so we'll be able to see the pictures!

No problem man, they have some very nice stock. It can be a little intimidating at first... :-)

They joint one side for you, so you have to square up your own stock. It's not too difficult if you have a jointer or a nice table saw. Again, just check for squareness... and even if you don't get anything from there, go into their waiting room and check out their hardwood floor. :-)

Real Funny Brad!!!! . My foot says it was about 25 lbs worth. Yeah everyone I dropped a giant piece of LR on my bare foot last night while I was carrying it to Brads car. Going to go get it x-rayed tomorrow cause it ain't looking of hot. Brad I still want to help you get the refugium set up cast or no cast. Glad the rocks look alright in your tank.
