My Nano Busted!
Has anyone ever heard of the glass on a 12 gal JBJ just busting for no reason? I LOST EVERYTHING! I think I may have saved some polyps. I went to my apartment on a Saturday and fed my fish. Everything was doing great. I didn't go to my apartment for a few days and the next thing I know my roommate called me on Monday and said that the front glass on my tank just busted for no reason on Sunday. Now why he waited 24 hours to call and tell, I don't know. I could have saved more. I can't prove that he had something to do with it busting, but he swears up and down that he didn't touch it. When I got over there, the front glass was busted out like he said except a piece in the center of the front. It looked like the left and right side of the front were busted and not the center. The distributor of the store I bought the tank from is replacing it for me. Since they agreed to do that, I am begining to wonder if that has happened before.

on the nano forum on RC people say its happening alot. If your nano isnt the newer 2006 model then the glass isnt as thick as it should be. Sorry for your loss. If you want i could donate a frag to you once your tank gets back up and going.

You should check out the Nano Cube forum on Nano-Reef.com. There have been TONS of people that have had their cubes arrive cracked, or crack while in use. Sorry to hear about your tank.

That is so sweet of you. That would be so helpful and greatly appreciated. My old tank was about a year or so old. I just found out that my new tank came in today. I'm getting excited about setting it up. Here are some pics of my old tank. They are bad pics cause they were taken from a camera phone

Sorry about your tank I have read many stories about the JBJ nanos breaking- it sucks!
I can't see your pictures....
I usually bring frags to the meetings if you go to them.

I'm so sorry for your loss! Please let me know when you get the tank back in business, and I will be happy to donate some frags.

The recall was in very early production runs, with only 993 units affected, and was a simple electrical issue. From the recall notice, "The affected AquaPod Aquariums could have a potential electrical risk resulting in the inability to independently operate each lamp. In the event the user plugs only one of the two power cords into an AC outlet, it may energize the remaining cord and present an electrical hazard resulting in shock."
Of the 993 potentially affected units, only 9 people have reported problems to the manufacturer.

Thank you to all. I have my new tank and started the cycle on Saturday. Now it's just time to wait.
Has anyone heard of putting freshwater guppies or mollies in a saltwater tank? I was in Petco the other day and they had a pair of mollies in the saltwater display. The guy working in there said they had been in that tank for about a month.

I've known several people to use mollies to cycle their tank. But most people frown on it because the fish have babies that you likely don't want.

If you have live rock, you don't need to add anything to start cycling your tank. This is what the live rock is for!
