My 2 year old beta

decided to surf the hardwoods last night. He could have bee there all night for all I know, anyway he was dried up a bit. When I picked him up, he twitched. Threw him back in the water. he puffed up and is STILL ALIVE!!

Amazing. Just checked on him and he looks fine now. Had to pick some dog hairs off him though

crazy

Its really crazy to think about how those fish that are so pretty and colorful come from mud puddles. That was awesome that your beta made it through that, at the petsmart i work at we have betas doing that kind of stuff all the time. It really neat that thats just how they live.

eeeewwwwww, i've always seen them kept in a bowl, not sure how long they'll last in a bowel... given that it's not their natural habitat...

;-)

Matt (TVI)
Well, considering their natural habitat is practically a puddle of mud, I think a bowl is a slight improvement.

My sister had the same experience; she wanted me to "dispose" of her dried-up betta she found shriveled under her desk, but I put it back in the bowl just in case (bettas do have an organ similar to a lung called a labyrinth). Needless to say, within an hour it was swimming around like normal again (plus some residual fuzz). It lived another two years, probably because she put a cover over the bowl to prevent further carpet surfing.

thats awesome..i had one at school with me for 1 year and a half...on my way home the container he was in flipped over and he went under the seat. when i got home 10 minutes later i found him and tossed him back in and he was fine.

i think it was because his name was Christopher Moltisanti!
