MORAY EEL questions about health and fixes
Hey all,
I just got back in town and had someone checking in on my tank when I was gone, but my fan died while I was gone. I am estimating the temp was about 88 or 89 in the tank. Fan is going again, along with canopy open, and stand open, tank is cooling nicely. All fish are doing fine except for my 18" golden spotted eel. He is 3/4 of the way out and is breathing really hard (opening and closing his mouth a lot). He is a beast and my fav one of my 4 eels ( in a 215) one lives in overflow(chainlink snake eel), one lives in sump (snowflake).
Any suggestions? or only time will tell?
I cut the lights off to help the temp drop faster as well.
Mike

Mike, I'd say the eel will probably be OK. They are tough little guys. I've heard stories of them being out of the tank for hours, almost crispy, and they live.
You might want to post a message on the FOWLR forum on reef central, bunch of people have eels on that forum, so you may get better advice, but I'd guess he'll be OK.

Sorry, that was really out of context. What I was trying to say was, that forum is specific to fish and eels and they could probably talk about identical experiences and give him a better answer than I could.
Definitely not slaming this forum, not trying to start anything, it was worded poorly or not clearly enough I guess. Plus, it's another option if he didn't get many responses here.
Guess I'll just stay quiet or just PM people. Just trying to help.

Hey man.......I would say that the water may be depleted of oxygen due to high temps. Try aerating it a bit, or do a water change. I have a J. Dragon, and a Canary/brazilian golden tail and they are pretty heavy gaspers.

Did a 40 galloon water change and added two extra powerheads after that. He still looks the same, no improvement, no worsening so I guess I will just wait it out.
