Looking for Epoxy...

Eric Borneman uses this type of epoxy (EP-400) to glue his frags... Do you know where I can find it ????

Thanks...

I grabbed the last tube at CBA Saturday to mount the frags from Mafiaman. Darn stuff made the skimmer go nuts. Now I got to do another waterchange. I don't think I'll use the Two Little Fishies brand anymore.

You get it in the plumbing section at Home Depot or Lowes. I bought some and it's crap. It doesn't hold. You can have mine if you want it.

Don't buy the epoxy. It's crap and makes bad things happen. Go with the Super glue GEL.

Actually the epoxy is effective and I have no problems using the smaller tube of "AquaStik" found at the hardware stores. There is a fundamental difference from your apparent expectations. Epoxy putty is not "sticky" and is used to create a mechanical attachment instead. It works wonders with rocks that have crevices. A frag can be wedged into a joint and wrapped around it's stem to secure it. Epoxy hardens into stone and is neutral in reaction to SPS tissue.

It should also be obvious that a soft coral that is just elastic tissue will never be adequately contained with this material. The exception might be a cage resembling the fingers of your hand touching at the tips. A frag thus enclosed would grow thru and probably hide the epoxy anchoring it in the future.

One point to be extremely careful is there are many varieties on the market which contain fillers including metals [bad]. I have not experienced the "skimmer gone wild" but certainly do not deny it could happen. In defense of a favorite adhesive I do use, I might also point out the tremendous amount of protein material released from any traumatized coral. So watching your filter after any fragging session is good advise. Running Activated Charcoal is routine for me after any introduction of new corals.

If I have to use it on wet materials, usually it works best to smear it on each article seperately then press the putty surfaces together.
