Local Source for JG speedfittings?

Hello everyone:

I hope to build a Ca reactor in the very near future, but I need to get the John Guest fittings I will need to build it. Is there is a local source for the John Guest fittings, or are the only places where I can get some online?

Also, the PE tubing push-on fittings sold at HD; are they the same thing as JG fittings? Can they be used in place of JG fittings? Are there any disadvantages to using the HD push-on tube fittings?

Any and all comments will be greatly appreciated; thanks!

- Michael

The HD fittings work the same. Buying internet will cost less since you have time.

I used the ones from Home Depot for all my 1/4" plumbing.
I have not had any issues with them.

I find that when I order plumbing fittings online, I usually change my design and end up with fittings I don't need and others I do need.

IMHO the ones at HD are not that much more expensive, and you can return them if needed.

Cheers
Mike

If you're looking for a good design, I just finished building my own from the "plans" here: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...hreadid=243755

All told, I think I spent about $100 on parts (including the pump, fittings, etc) for a dual stage Ca reactor. The hardest things to track down were the NPT taps. Let me know if you want to use mine when you get to that point.

Ace Hardware is a good source for NPT taps! I bought a 1/4" there after looking everywhere else.

The 1/2" NPT took me a while to track down- I finally found it at Handy Hardware in Tucker, along with just about everything else I could want. I think they had up to a 3" tap - the thing was massive...

Cool Mojo! I saw that design. How's that reactor working out for you? Mine will be sort of a hybrid between that and the Geo Ca reactor in RC's DIY section:

What thickness of acrylic tubing did you use? I've got 4" OD tubing that is 1/4" thick. I'm starting to think the wall thickness may be more than I need. I think I can return it to McMaster Carr.

I used 4.5" OD tubing with 1/8" wall thickness. The project that I referenced didn't require any type of acrylic bonding - 4.5" fits directly into 4" PVC fittings. And I could get it cheap at USPlastic.

I also liked the plugs used in the project- tight fit without worrying about unscrewing 30 screwsand all plastic. Also a drop in fit to the 4" PVC. Lastly, be sure you order some clear pvc if you order from them, for a bubble counter.

I don't know how well this one works yet. I've only finished it, filled it up with water, and let it run for a few weeks now. I still need to get a regulator, CO2 tank, and peristaltic pump...
