library book list in members section
There is a thread in the ARC members only forum that is collecting the titles of books that members would either donate perminately or loan long term to a newly forming club library. even if you have a duplicate of a book already posted, please feel free to add a second copy. Thank you for your participation. the overall process of a library is in the planning stages. listing your books helps define how large of a project this might be. http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=36945

There are a few things that should be made clear before the collection of books begins.
1) where will this library be located? I for one don't think donating a hundred dollars worth of books to have the carted off to a far corner is right.
2)What will happen to the books if the library doesn't work out? Will they be returned?
I think a far better idea than a library is to start a data base of people with books they are willing to loan out.
Then people can find someone close to them, drop an email and go get it.
This keeps the club that has enough issues right now from getting more problems.

currently the proposal of how the library will run is being created by Bob and will be present to the BoD. at this point the post I refered to is just to collect titles and get a feel for participation level. your questions are valid and there will be a period when the proposal will be open for input and full answers can be givin. I hesitate to give tentitive answers to your questions now because the operational layout is in the draft stage, so an answer I give today may not be the right answer in the long run.
the answers I give you now are not the final word. currently a person has volunteered to be a librarian. the way it will probably start out is all books will be straight donations to become full property of the club. we will list additional book titles held by members that can be borrowed directly from members. so for instance, a member has a nice/expensive reference set that they dont want to donate but would allow other members to barrow directly from them, that would be another level of how the library would help, by listing the title. you mention that things should be made clear prior to collection of books. you are right. the thread is only seeking titles to start building the process. no books have been collected yet. everything will be spelled out. as far as keeping the club from getting into further problems, my understanding is that the BoD has already said to Bob that it is a good idea and so further effort is being applied to produce a workable program. further info is coming.

Having a library serves limited demographics, having a data base system would serve everyone.

I would just say that we are not at the point of debating this. This is Bob's project that he is working on to roll out as a proposal. we are getting ahead of ourselves trying to answer questions/debate a program that is still in a draft level. member participation will occur once something is actually available to present for comment.

waste time? this is Bob's idea/interest. why pull the debate out here? its a members issue. I asked respectfully to hold off on input until more info came out. you continue to bait and harpoon the issue before it is even off the ground. waste time? so much for participating now that you have judged the direction I particpated as being on the wrong idea according to you.

Akula you are taking me all wrong, I'm just saying talk about different ideas now. Mine may not be the best and yours is.
But without talking about them and exploring all avenues as well as getting member input we will never know.
Explian your ideas based on it's merits and I will try to do the same with mine.

my comments are posted within the members forum. It was not my idea. I had a very small part in this including posting 2 simple threads that have now snowballed down hill. I tried to slow this down before it blew into a full on "sell your position" debate. I said there would be a time for input and respectfully asked to hold on a bit longer so that the guy that really put the work into the proposal was able to present it. that respectful request was run over. I will now restrict my comments to the members only section.

Maria,
I have a book on seahorses, which may help if you want to borrow it. It is the barrons one. Unfortunatly I seemed to have gleamed most of my info from Jenn and Carol keen and a lot of web research. However I seemed to be having success now with the small pipefish I have. One small brood so far. Gotta keep the bbs going though.

A draft proposal of library related services is being prepared and will be submitted to the BOD for comment and hopefully will be discussed at its next meeting. I expect that after the BODs comments have been incorporated, there will be an opportunity for public input and comments.
Thanks for expressing your interest and support of the concept!
