Leather Coral Melting

Yesterday I bought two leather corals (finger leathers). I acclimated the same way I have all my other corals. This morning they were drouped over as if they were melting. Is this a normal phase leathers go through when they are moved to a new tank? If so - how long does it take for them to recover? If not - what could be the cause?

I don't think it is that unusual for a new leather in a tank to be slumped over. They can be sensitive to change and close up or slump over Keep an eye on it. If the tissue is decaying or disinigrating I would remove that decaying tissue. You don't want that in your tank.

Thank you for the reply. I will keep an eye on them. Right now I can not see any sings of decay. They simply look very tired (weak).

I am wondering if this is a reaction to the change in lighting. The LFS uses MH lights. I am using 2X65W PC's. It is a 40 gal. tank. I think I have enough light; my other leathers are doing fine. What I do not understand is - If they want more light why would they not expand to their maximum to increase their exposure (more surface area to collect more ligh

Just give them time. They are not that demanding of light. Its probably just stress from the shift. If you feel like you are going to loose them, you may just want to frag them off. Also, if you stick around, there are usually tons of leather frags for sale or trade at meets.
