Lawnmower Blenny
I'm interested in getting this little fella. Heard they are great additions to the tank because they graze on algae on the rocks and even on the side of the tanks. I was wondering if anyone had any luck with the lawnmower, aka... sailfin or jeweled blenny. How effective are they cleaning the tank?
Getting tired of Astrea snails falling all the time. Need some more reliable. Dwarf blue legged hermits do a great job with the tank cleaning.

I am 50/50 right now on blennys.
I had a horseface for 2 years and it took a dive out of the tank one day. I found it about 12 feet away from the tank the next day.
I bought a redlip about 1.5 months ago. He wouldn't eat anything, just pick at the rocks. I haven't seen him in about a month so I guess he passed.
They do a good job cleaning, they just need plenty of room to swim. If you need a good fish for a small tank, go with a glown goby. The one I have is awsome!

Yea, I've been hearing about them jumping out of the tanks. I've got a tight lid on it, so hopefully it won't escape. Getting tired of saving those D*MN Astrea snails.
How's the UPS working out. Dropped it off during lunch.
I had a clown goby and he wouldn't eat anything. They're awesome looking, but didn't have much luck with him.

My lawnmover blenny is pretty good at cleaning the glass and LR. He's definitely not a jumper like other blennies.
I supplement his diet with nori.

Get one on the larger size. They are pigs once they start eating. Mine with rest on the nori clip and eat away for hours with out moving. It works the rocks here and there, but mainly eats as much as possible of everything else. I would not be surprised if the blenny exploded on day from eating too much.

Eyelash/lawnmower/sailfin blenny
I love the cute little guys - unfortunately mine (that I had for about a year) decided to commit suicide about a month ago. Found it in my dogs bed about 10 feet from the tank (fortunately the puppy hadn't noticed YET).
I never had a hair algae problem - then SUDDENLY - now I have a small but quickly growing hair algae problem! Well, yesterday I got another cute little eyelash/lawnmower/sailfin blenny - and he is already munching away.
Since I have it in my seahorse tank - I have to be careful - they are great, but if they get a bit hungry they start trying to eat the slime (or whatever is there) off the heads of the seahorses - probably gives them a headache. I haven't had a problem for many months with this though.
Good luck,
Margi

I agree with Margi. Blennies are my favorite. I have a black sailfin, midas,
bi-color and lawnmower. All but the lawnmower have their own holes that they back into with their heads sticking out. My lawnmower is huge (6"). Some have seen it and are shocked at his size. He's such a pig.
I have heard of some having trouble getting them to eat. After a while mine finally started eating seaweed off the clips.
You should be fine since your tank is covered. I would go for it!

Doc...
I didn't go home for lunch today. Had to buy my car tag because my birthday is Saturday. Kinda sucks that I am out $200 on my birthday....And my car is a 2001 Honda Civic. But the lady said they are worth more than other cars of that year.
I will check it out when I get home. Thanks for the UPS. If an ice storm does come this weekend I am READY!

Pam has a gorgeous lawnmower in her tank that is one of the largest I have ever seen. I would definitely go with one! They have so much character. I had one a while back in quarantine at the same time as a small eel. Almost the same size as the eel....but apparently eels like them too!

They do not sift through sand. Mine stirs the sand occasionally with his tail.

Also, mine has a slight attitude problem. He doesn't like waiting in line for a hit from the Nori clip, so He'll nip at the tail of the Angel or tang to get it to move so he can pig out.

Cool. I'll start looking for a small lawnmower. Saw one at Under the wave. He's was pretty big, over 4". He was cool looking. Trying to find a baby one, under 2".

That's histerical Chad. You can find lawnmower blennies pretty much anywhere. Mine actually has red on his fins. Never seen one like it.
Have Fun,
Pam
