Lace Rock

Has anyone used lace rock in marine aquariums? Is it safe. Where does it come from?

Not really all that great. It is heavy and not really porous but it will work. I have seen folks use it. Now I am talking the heavy, not sure what kinda rock type. Kinda reminds you of concrete with a bunch of holes and thin plates.

I've noticed that a lot of people refer to tufa rock as lace rock. Lace rock is a dense volcanic rock, usually with cool, plate-like formations. Tufa is very light-weight, porous, basically calcium carbonate. Often there is some rust on these rocks as well. Probably a good buffer, and a lot of people use these in freshwater rift lake setups, where hard water is important. I would think that tufa would be much better as "live" rock than lace rock would be.

i though lace rock was another name for girly heavy metal bands from the 80's, not sure how they would fit in your tank jay.....
