lots of fish are illegal in this cruddy state. some law makers think that 80 degree tropical fish will somehow make it through the seasons here in say, lake lanier. it's just not possible. that's why many turn to saltwater for something exotic. i own fish you've probably never even imagined knowing about (besides the sea robin i met up with at marine fish on johnson ferry rd., that thing still haunts me). remember, the movie jaws scared many people, but most of us know great whites aren't like they are in the movie. the same applies to the extreme freshwater fish keepers world, in many cases.

and yeah mantis, i've got a black. great fish. wasabi had a massive silver when i visited his house back in the day. i also have the largest hi finned banded chinese sucker shark that i've ever seen. the ones you see in goldfish tanks at the pet store for thirty bucks. i've got a bright orange one that's pushing a foot in length. so i'm not out of fishkeeping, but the reef environment is just too much for my impoverished/ feeble minded self.

jardini's are nice. very mean though. i have two freshwater stingrays. asian aros are in a different class of penalties since they're considered cites one animals..........even though they're legal in canada and captive bred in asia.

The reason they are illegal is not because of a threat to our northern lakes. It's the South Georgia waterways that they are trying to protect. At this time, the Okefenoke Swamp is overrun with oscars and other tropicals. Some of these fierce cichlids are outcompeting native species, who are dissapearing as a result. Imagine what kind of damage an arowana or pirhana population could do. I'm not saying this to hound anyone. I know that you guys are responsible hobbyist, and anyone that reads these forums obviously cares a lot about the environment our finned friends come from.

I used to have a few in Colorado, where they are legal. Are you selling them? LMK.

yeah, i hate it when idiot hobbiests release foreign fish. ruins the hobby for the rest of us. oscars are far more threatening than piranha though. and all the "piranhas" people catch in the news in other states are 98% of the time pacus. mantisshrimp, that's a negative. most wholesalers can't even get a cheap throw away retic ray for 20 bucks cost. here's one i took a road trip to new jersey for: potamotrygon motoro blue phase
