Sweet! Thanks for the pointer.

You know - as cheap as those are, they would make a great cheap refuge. Just throw some shop lights on top and call it done.

Btw Keith, I like the rolling bases you made. Sturdy! (And I'm also a fan of DSBs.)

When is moving day?

They are really great for sumps. They have a shorter version that is ~50G that is only 12 inches tall also. http://www.mytscstore.com/detail.asp...productID=9365

Savko is great. It's way cheaper then buying local. It only took 3 days from when I ordered for the stuff to get here. Between Savko, Tractor Supply and the Pool Store I have saved tons of money over the years instead of buying things labled fish products!

Thanks for the comments on the carts. I think they'll work beautifully for what I need. I overbuilt them because of the fact they are on wheels. That will create all kinds of sideways stress a normal stand will never see.

Not sure on the move date yet. I've still got an unfinished basement that I at least want to get through the design phase and get a timeline before I order the tank! Hopefully I will do that very soon after the holidays and have the tank early March at the latest.

I have a couple business trrips and then back home to Texas suring the holidays so I'm pretty much done after this week until the first weekend after New Years.

The RC thread is updated but here is a snippit!

Wow I'm definitely not disappointed! Worn out and tired YES but it was a fun evening today.

First of all I can't say enough about the value of the rock from Dr. Mac. It was the 1st grade Tonga. For right at $2.50 INCLUDING shipping I got some really nice stuff. Now I have seen more corraline coverage, etc but not for under $3 a lb. This exceeded my expectations for sure!

OK so a little about the setup first I have the skimmer connected to one of the troughs. I have a Mag 9.5 pumping water from the bottom trough into the upper trough then it drains back down through 2 1.5" bulkhead. In each trough I have 2 150W heaters and a Tunze 6100.

When I got the rock I had 2 20G rubbermaids full of saltwater to dunk and swish before putting them into the troughs on the rock racks I made which ended up working out great!

Anyway onto the pics of the rock. About half the rocks were at least 10" and a few were monsters!

Boxes waiting to be opened!

Well things are coming along. The fishroom is all framed out! I did a 90G water change this morning again. More then anything I'm doing it to maintain levels since I don't measure the calcium and alkalinity and such on a regular basis. I have a touch (less than 5ppm nitrate and nothing else detectable.
Here are some pics of the room.
First this is a shot of what you will look at so this is facing the front of where the tank will be.

The fish room itself is 12x14 plus a little 5x4ft notch for the sink area which I'll get to in a minute.
This is looking into the fish room from the same angle as the last shot.

Here is the best shot of the full room I could get from the side.

Here is a pic showing the 5ft double door framed.

Here is a close up of the stand. It is not done yet as I still am going to put some bracing in the center. It's made of 2x6s.

Here is the sink area. They have run the lines. I told them to put the dran low and they are going to leave a connection on the top of the drain PVC so I can hook up and drain for a water change. I think I'll just put a union. Have a cap on one and then a barb on another and leave the cap on until I do the water change then just change out the top of the union to the barb, connect the drain hose. Open the drain valve and done!

Coming right along!

I would double up those 2X6 uprights. Unless your a structural engineer... I have this saying I like to say... "When in doubt, make it stout." I would have my doubts with that stand to be able to support almost 2 tons. Just my two cents on that. I would hate to see that tank meet the floor.
That skimmer is sweet. Fancy stuff. Out of sheer lazyness (on my part) could you refresh my memery on it?

I am married to a civil engineery and she would probably say that your 2 x 6's are fine.... if you look at most commerically made stands, they have 1x3 for tanks ~ 100 gallons... wood is amazingly strong.

OK the RC thread is updated. I'm going to add a little extra to the stand just for good measure. The room is now sheetrocked and I coated it with kilz. Now just waiting to get the trim and stuff in so I can finish it up. Tank is coming in 3 weeks!

this is a 450g Acrylic tank?

if so, i would put at least 1 sheet of 3/4 plywood down for the tank to rest on, you can drill for the overflows, etc where you want on the sheet of plywoods...

hth,

Matt
