I thought I pass this on of what I thought a really good deal on RO/DI unit

More update on the RO/Di unit I brought from Ebay, since i have a little time on my hand right now.
well here is the unit

and here is the link

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Reef-6-st-1...QcmdZVi ewItem

for $100 ship I thought it a great deal. the unit come with nearly everything put together. all I have to do was to get the water line into the unit and the waist line out. It did have a small drip, but it a small problem and I can fix it tomorrow.

95% of filter media out there are made by 3M, That being said the above system is not best suited for reef keeping.
The filter chambers need to be clear to you can see when your sediment, and DI media have expired.

Also those two polishers on top are for flavor and are of no use in the reef keeping hobby.

I got one for about the same price but it had the tank with it and the clear canisters. Cant beat the price! I just added a TDS to it.

I disagree with Chris on the canisters needing to be clear.
I have the white canisters on my RO/DI. I do have a TDS meter that I periodically use to test the water coming out of the DI filter. When it goes over 002 TDS I change all my filters (not the RO membrane).

The last stage on the unit in the picture is a carbon filter, it is not needed as Chris said it is purely for taste purposes. Leaving it in will also cause your TDS reading to be high. The water coming out of the DI cartridge should be 000 TDS.

IMHO
Mike

i was wondering why i was getting 10tds on my aquasafe unit.its only 25 coming in.so you can just undo the last two huh?can you buy the clear canisters somewhere.i have a dual tds inline meter made by spectrapure.so i may not need the clear canisters.

Based on the picture, remove only the last filter (carbon). Leave the resin chamber (deionizer) on.

place the final carbon inline infront of the unit for extra chlorine removal.

Keep the Resin (DI Unit)
