Question

Hagen Powerheads

I was wondering if anyone uses Hagen ph's and how they like them. I just purchased a 38 gallon tank and I'm looking to add 2 ph's to have more flow in the tank when I have it setup. What do yall think and what model ph's would be the best for my tank? Thanks!!

I have 1 hagen PH, but I use it for mixing saltwater.

I have maxi-jets in the tank at school and I love them!!!!

I second the Maxijet. I have used them for over 10 years with minimal failures. If you are buying new, get Maxijet. If you already have the Hagen, I'm sure they will be fine.

I use a single 1200 in my 55. It provides a very gentle flow throughout the tank. I would think a single 900 would do the same in your 38. I would double them if you are looking for medium - high flow...

I really like the Maxi-Jets as well. I use the 1200's and a couple of their mini jets for the Refugium, salt mixing etc. Great powerheads.

Maxijets are the only way. My one or two hagens are mixing pumps and backups only. It is hard to correct flow and I have snapped the shafts on two of them already. (not sure how though but my maxis have never snapped.)

I would want the flow to be a constant flow but not too strong of a flow. I was planing on putting in two just so I could hit all the spots in the tank and so there wouldn't be any dead spots. Since I don't want the flow to be strong, do yall think 2 Maxijet 600's would be fine or would that be too weak for a 38 with coral/inverts and fish in it??

I wee bit on the weak side I think but I prefer a lot more flow. I have a 20 gal with two 900's.

So Ray you'd suggest 2 900's on the 38? How is the flow in your 20 with the 2 900's, high??

Kinda high but 900's are only like 235 gph and I am using the foam prefilters (Jenn has them in her shop) and it is a 20 gal long. I figure with the pressure drop on the intake it is fine. I will tell you that all my cyano issues went away when I increased flow in that tank.
