It will not be OK to just rely on an auto topoff when leaving for 3 1/2 weeks --- thats a disaster waiting to happen.

I am going on vacation for 5 days starting Wednesday. I am not even willing to trust my neighbor w/ the nano (although she is going to watch the big tank). Nano's are just alot more pickey about everything and need a closer eye kept on them.

So on Tuesday night I am delivering my Nano to a fellow reefers house down here in Macon. Should be an easy move since I glued all the frags to the main reef LR. I will set it up at his house and he can enjoy it for the 6 or 7 days it will be over there. I'll leave him w/ simple instructions and enough RO/DI water to last till I get back along w/ phone numbers of where to reach me just incase a disaster happens.

I feel much more comfortable knowing it is being watched by someone who owns a reef and would treat it like his own. Also being at his house I'm sure he will keep a much closer eye on it then if I left it at home and someone just stoped by once a day.

Nishant give yours a really good cleaning and find somewhere to deliver it to. Better safe than sorry especially when talking 3 1/2 weeks.

If you can't find anybody close by how about your favorite LFS or maybe one of our sponsors. (hopefully your favorite LFS is one of our sponsors ) I would offer to watch it but I live very far away and it would probably be better for you to find somewhere close by.

Delivered my Minibow to Clay's house tonight.

Took about 2 hours to pack it up and give it a good cleaning.

Took about 1 hour to set it back up. Most corals were back out and happy within a few min.

I used a rubermaid that held a little more gals than the tank. I carefully packed the LR and corals in this then added all the tank water. In the process it got about a 1 gal water change.

All is well. Will sleep much better while on vacation.

I think you would have to catch your fish and empty the tank completely to transport it. Even a 10G tank can be stressed by moving it around with water in it. I'm a bit confused about the coming over part...... if the tank is at my house while you are away? I don't think your mom would want me coming and going from your house while you are away. If she doesn't mind... Hey everybody... Reef Party at Nishant's house! Do you have cable TV? High speed internet? Leave lots of cash too, those 10g tanks are high maintenance!

Yea the stress on the glass but mainly the silicon seals in the corners. Best bet is to put corals in bucket, cover with tank water, bag or container the fish and move tank empty. Except maybe for sand in bottom. It's not as bad as it seems.

Remind mom that its better to be addicted to reefing than reefer! You could be obsessed with a lot worse things than reef tanks. Does she know enough about tanks to know that it can't go 3 1/2 weeks without someone minding it. Present the angle to her that you have all of your time and money in the tank and you don't want it to crash. If all else fails tell her how bad the house will smell after everything dies and rots for weeks on end!! I would be more than happy to talk to your mom in person or over the phone so she will know who she is dealing with.
