going on vacation. any tips?

i will be leaving my reeftank for the weekend. worried... any suggestions on what i should do to maintain water level. Is it safe to fill the sump 90% so that i will have enough water to compensate the evaporation? i have timers set so that's not an issue. Is there something that i'm forgetting?

Topping off your system is recommended, but don't over do it.

I wouldn't recommend filling the sump above the point where if you were to loose power, the water in your plumbing that would settle back into your sump would cause it to overflow.

You could always drip kalkwasser into your sump to help keep it topped off.

I don't think that the evaporation that would occur over a weekend, would be significant enough to cause any real harm unless you're losing gallons each day.

Sounds like you have it covered assuming you aren't going to evap the water in the sump. Fish and corals will be fine foodwise.

In the future look at getting something to help with auto top off just for the sake of having one less thing to do so frequently.

There is tons of info on them on the web. I just use a gravity fed float valve by Kent. But, there are lots of electronic float switch schemes out there (although I've always been afraid they'll stick- ask CyberChef).

But, don't go installing one of these before your trip- you'll want some time to observe.
