FS&M local to be published
Portor Betts from the Fish Store & More [ the Latin linguist] has had a paper accepted by www.advancedaquarist.com for near future publication. This concerns his propagation and grow-out of the Peppermint Shrimp. He seemed really thrilled to join the ranks of authors in the Marine Reef field, so if you stop by the store, congratulate him!

My article, "Behavior and Breeding of Peppermint Shrimp" was accepted last week by Terry Siegel, editor of Advanced Aquarist Online Magazine however he hasn't told me how soon it will be featured. It may be a couple of months til then, I'm not sure but I will let all my ARC buddies know as soon as I find out. I have to thank Bruce Carlson, Dana Riddle, and Charles Delbeek for their support in recommending Terry's fabulous website.

Congratulations Porter!
Any tips for the ARC website about rasing peppermint shrimps that you can share before we get to read your article?

Although I am committed to marathon Tuesdays at the store (when we get our precious marinelife) which makes my ARC participation difficult, the society is forever my family and has been since those first meetings in 1995 when it was AMAS. As far as L. wurdemanni culture goes, I would recommend April Kirkendoll's book,"How to Raise and Train Your Peppermint Shrimp" which was suggested to me by none other than Julian Sprung himself. I might also mention that I have no dog, no cat, no children, and no spouse which enables me to really devote the time and space for all the support systems required....thank God!

Congrats Porter! I'll have to pick up that book. One of my peppermints loves taking the tube from the fuge back to the sump. Gotta break him of the habit before he becomes return pump bait. Looking forward to your article.
What's he best day to check for new fish? I was in Friday and the selection was pretty mundane. Looking for unique fish such as 5 stripe wrasse, neon gobies, etc. I know, not too unusual, but whenever someone tells me they gotta special order them in, not much incentive to wait vs. ordering online.
Still love the display tanks and the saltwater pond up front.

thanks! I didn't mean for my last statement to sound crass, and I have the utmost respect for those shouldering the responsibility of raising kids. I just know I'd be a really lousy parent, so my corals and shrimp are my kids, you know?
Wed. is the best day for new stock. Availability of species is quite variable but we endeavor to provide best possible conditions for our marines with therapeutic Cu+ treatment and dates on the stickers when they were recieved plus harmonious tankmates and generous feeding.
This year will be the most exciting research project yet as I am working on breeding Fire Shrimp! There are at least 3 labs that I'm aware of so far that have successfully brought them to metamorphosis and Tropical Marine Center in England has, thru feeding improvements, reduced their larval duration to 9 weeks. I have 4 adults presently that I am ready to introduce to each other for pair formation. WHAT A GREAT HOBBY THIS IS!!!
