FS/FT Sea Swirl

I've got a 3/4" SS that I'd like to trade for some lights. Maybe VHO, T-whatever, PC, even NO if they are long (I've got a 8' tank). It's just a FOWLR tank, so I don't need major wattage, but would like to add some supplemental light to what I've got currently.

I'd also be willing to sell it, but there seems to be a glut of SSs on the market these days and not much demand (reminds me too much of the IT job market).

So, anyone have some lights they want to get rid of, maybe you upgraded to MH and don't use them, if you are looking for a Sea Swirl, let's make a deal.

If you have any questions, let me know.

thanks,
Chris

Hey Todd:

A sea swirl is a device that uses an electric motor to rotate your return outlet on a ongoing basis. It helps to create random and turbulent movement in your tank for your corals to enjoy.

Just like Michael said, they are great if you have corals. Some other advantages are there are no motorized parts in the water, so there's no added heat to the tank. You'd connect either a return line (from sump) or a closed loop to the SS and that's where the water comes from.

Nice definition Michael! However, a picture is worth a thousand words:

Ok now I know, but hell it's not submersable? So this thing hangs off the back or side of the tank with hoses running to it?

Nice Idea but I just spend butt loads of cash to hide all that kind of stuff in my sump and cabinet. This most likely is not what I need. But I want some wave action in the tank.

Todd, have you seen the tunze wave box in action?

Here are two links to wave box movies. These things are really something.

I was at Simon K's house last night. He is running 2 15 year old Tunze's. That's the way I am going to go.

Thanks

Tunze are HUGE. If you run a canopy you will not notice the seaswirl but nobody is gonna miss the tunze. I take it you were talking about the tunze streams. They move alot of water though and i love mine.

Yeah, the wave box is pretty large...but I would say still smaller than an overflow box. And you could put it by the overflow box so it wouldn't be so noticeable.

Maybe I am thinking of something else? Simon has 2 Tunze "somethings" they look like bigger maxijets that are hooked up to a computer that alternate pulsed waves bacj and forth thru the tank.

That's what I want to do.

Yeah, those are probably the stream powerheads. They put out a lot of flow. Here's a link to what those look like. http://myreefcreations.com/tunze.htm I have one and love it - would like to get another.

Did you do bb, Todd? We have the same tank size. I went with one stream 6000 on a single controller just because I have southdown and wasn't sure about the sandstorm possibility.

Chris, sorry - we're kinda hijacking your thread...maybe we should start a new one for this?
