FS: Adult Seahorses
Hello all,
This is something I'd rather not do, but due to a clear need, I am selling all of my prized seahorses. All are eating frozen mysis readily and are currently in a 46 gallon soft coral reef. Below are pictures of each:
Male H. erectus (2.5 yrs old; given birth to many fry)
Female H. Reidi (age unknown - ~3-4 years)
Female " Tiger Tail" - H. Comes (uncommon species - age unknown)
Female H. Reidi (smaller - age unknown, but less than 2 years)
Please make an offer, but do consider that they are mature adults and in great health. I am willing to separate, as none have permanently paired off (only flirted). Also, please know that it will be up to my discernment if I want to sell them to you; I am very protective of these guys, and I want to rest assured that they will receive only the best of care (feeding minimum 2X per day, no LPS or SPS coral in the tank, etc.). I prefer cash at the moment over trades, unless a Ca Reactor or nice SPS are in the mix. I will not ship, but I am willing to meet somewhere local.
Thanks for looking.

I love your sea horses. Sorry you have to sell the little guys, but I hope they all go to good homes.

LPS often have potent stings that can damage/harm seahorses, and SPS require too strong of a flow in the tank for them to tolerate. HTH
Donald, I responded to your PM.

Kayla,
I was actually considering a seahorse tank. Do all seahorses need feeding 2x a day. I figured I would ask the area expert. If so then a seahorse tank is prob out of the question.

Doug: Yes, truthfully, they do need to be fed at least twice per day, three times being ideal. At the moment, I am waking them up at 5:30 AM so they can eat once before I leave for school, once when I get home (2:30 PM), and once more before going to bed (5-6 PM). It may sound tedious, but I learned what works for my situation. Not everyone is suited for owning seahorses for that reason, though.
Oscar: 20 gallon long would become too cramped (H. reidi get to be 12" in height!), but provided the tank temp stayed low - around 74-78 degrees - it doesn't sound like a problem initially. Seahorses are social creatures, though, so I recommend keeping them in pairs at least.
Melissa: Thanks! I am sorry too, but as Josh said, this won't be the end of my seahorse affiliation.

Kayla, amazing pictures. Better than National Geographic.
I don't know how much money is involved for purchase, but does anyone have a contact who would know if the GA aquarium might be interested in these for exhibits or husbandry?
I'm thoroughly too busy and technically unqualified to take these as pets, but a tax deduction is a nice thing to have (meaning, I'd buy them and donate to the aquarium, not asking Kayla to take the fall).
