Frag Swap on December 14th - Directions to Edo

A few folks have asked for detailed directions so I thought I'd post them. Here are the simple ones from the Edo web site. Below are more detailed directions with landmarks. If you are coming south on I-85, I would pass exit 91, Clairmont Rd, and go one more to exit 89, North Druid Hills.

Edo has posted a mapquest direction link here if you'd rather do that.
For door-to-door directions > ClickHere <
These directions are detailed with landmarks and the landmarks are accurate. I live in the area and shop here so know the area fairly well.

From I-85 headed North or South, get off at N. Druid Hills Rd and go South on N. Druid Hills. If you are coming south on I-85, you'll turn left and go across the bridge at the top of the ramp. If you are coming north on I-85, you'll stay in the right hand exit lane and be placed going south on N Druid Hills Rd.

Once you get off I-85 and are headed South on N. Druid Hills Rd, the first major intersection is Briarcliff with a QuickTrip on the far corner. Go straight past it. The road turns residential. Go for a mile or so. Next major intersection is Lavista. The near right corner has a Dunkin Donuts and the far right corner has a Burger King. Go thorugh the light. This is Toco Hills Shopping Center where Edo is. Go about 100yds further until you see the Toco Hills Giant Liquor store (remember this for later). Turn right into the Toco Hills shopping center at the T.H.G.L.S. The T.H.G.L.S is a free standing building in the middle of the parking lot. Drive past the T.H.G.L.S and go left around the corner of the building. You are now in front of Edo. Park. Legally. Bring Cooler of Corals and go inside.

If coming up I-285 East from the South or in from US78.....

Get off at the US 78 exit. Take the second exit that goes in towards town. Should say "Decatur". "Stone Mountain" is the wrong way. Once on 78, get off at the first exit which should be Briar Vista/N. Druid Hills. Follow the exit around and go right at the exit ramp light. Once on B.V./N.D.Hills you come quickly (100 ft) to a big intersection. That's Lawrenceville Highway. Go straight through the light (N Dekalb Mall will be on your left). N Druid turns residential past here. Stay on it a couple of miles through a couple of lights. Next Big intersection is Clairmont Rd. There are two big churches on the right and a BP Station on the left. Go Straight through this light. Crest the little hill and there's Toco Hills. Turn left into Toco Hills Shopping Center at the Publix Sign at the first light you come to. Turn right at first Parking Lot Stop Sign. Drive 200 Ft. You should be in front of Edo. Park. Legally. Bring Cooler of Corals and go inside.

Hope this is helpful for those coming a distance.

Jay

Question

Frag Swap on December 14th - Request Itinerary/Guidance for Evening's Activities

There are some of us (like myself) who have never done one of these "frag swap" things before. Can someone who knows kindly give us some info on how it works?

Specifically, I'm looking for these questions to be answered:

1. What is the general itinerary for the evening?
a) When should we show up?
b) When does the eating part start - finish?
c) When does the swapping part start -finish?
From comments on the www.atlanatareefclub.org page, I get the feeling that it starts at 7:30 with trading/swapping going on throughout the evening. If this is a Japanese Steakhouse, walking around and "visiting" everyone for swapping may not be easily accommodated.

2. Do those of us attending need to bring/do anything special?
a) Should I bring extra plastic bags? A cooler to hold things I get?
b) Can I get a list of "it would be a good idea if you are
swapping/buying to be sure you bring X"?
c) Should we bring the cooler o'stuff into the restaurant
when we get there for 1a above or leave it in the car
until 1b starts?
I have no clue myself and would rather be better prepared than not hence, I ask. I'm not far away so going home to get something isn't a crisis, but for others it may be.

Thanks!
Jay

Good questions Jay!

I would advise bringing extra zip bags to the swap; you can never have enough of them.

Its going to get cold in this week, so will be especially important to protect you new aquisitions from sudden and dramatic temperature changes; hence the cooler.

As for the other questions, I'll let others wiegh in, as this will be my first official ARC swap as well.

Jay, great questions!

I think almost everyone here brings a cooler because of the drastic temp changes we have during winter especially. It's probably a good idea to bring the frags inside. I don't think this will be an issue for the restaurant, but sometimes is an issue for the LFS where we usually have meetings. It is supposed to get down to freezing on Tuesday night, so we might not have a choice.

Clay, I would think we can swap and then eat. I have a few announcements to make. I am hoping that we can do that prior to eating. But I am not sure.

Were to swap the frags?

I was going to ask how eveyone is going to do this. I will have all my stuff in the cooler but I will probably do my swaping outside. It would probably bother other people that are eating if we bring a bunch of coolers and start swaping bags of live sea animals, while they are all eating dead ones.

What do you guys think?

Thanks
Clay

Hi Clay!

Thanks for being considerate!

Sally and I have both spoken to the management of the restaurant and they are fine with us bringing in our stuff.

We have a separate room all to ourselves for the entire night! Just fish geeks!

I just got info from another thread that we have a whole separate room all to ourselves and that the mgt is OK with us bringing all our coolers of coral, etc in with us. Please feel free to correct me if I am mistaken in this and I'll edit/delete this post.

It's not going to get above freezing tonight according to the local weather dudes. I don't know about you guys, but I'll be inside where it's warm!
