For those that lost power due to the storm, What did you do to keep everything alive?
For those that lost power due to the storm, what did you do (e.g. air stone) or have to keep everything alive? How long were you without power?
I figured now would be a good time to could learn and benefit from everyone's experience.
Here's a proposed format to keep this helpful:
Lost Power: __ hours
Equipment Used: ________ (e.g., Inverter)
Action taken: ___________(e.g., kept tank oxygenated with air pump with airstones)
Final Outcome: _________ (e.g., everything survived)
Thanks!
Bob

Here at the shop, we were without power until 5 minutes before opening on day 2 of our big anniversary sale.
Lost Power: 6 hours
Equipment Used: 5KVA Generac Generator
Action Taken: Ran return pumps on generator on both the coral holding system and saltwater fish system along with our hospital system. In past experience, not much is needed on the freshwater holding system up until about the 8 hour mark.
Final Outcome: Everything Survived - Only problem was a corrupted Master Boot Record on the POS system.

Lost Power: 0 hours
Equipment used: Bicycle pump to inject air to skimmer... mirrors to reflect the sun to the tank for light. Foot pump as return from sump.
Action taken: I got real tired trying to pump and stomp all day.
Final outcome: I need to read the rest of this thread for better ideas...

Lost power for 13 Hrs!
Lost Power: 13 hours
Equipment Used: Piece of 3x12 Acrylic
Action taken: Stirred the water in main tank and sump every 30 mins with lots of surface agitation. Did 5% water change when power was restored.
Final Outcome: 1 xeina stalk near top of tank ate it other than that all ok.
I figured, we buy shipped corals, LS and LR that all survive being bagged.
Another 6 hours and I was off to wallmart to get an inverter.
Delaney.

I use Marine Battery, relay, and a power inverter. When the power is out it automatically trips over and runs the main pump with the inverter. Should run about 12 hours I think.
Never used it for more than 4 though.

How well do those APC backup batteries that are commonly used for computers? Has anyone had experience with those?

Actually one of the girls in the general forum used a computer battery backup on hers and said it worked like a charm. But that thread was a little while ago...

I'm going to switch my APC battery to the tank after the upgrade. I don't really know why I have it connected to my TV now...
