Food lobsters as pets
Now that I'm going to, but....
Is it possible to buy one of the comercial lobsters that you see for sale in the supermarkets and keep it as a wet pet? Has anyone on the board done that? What kind of tank set up would they require? I would imagine that they'd need a pretty godd chiller to start with.
Cheers...Michael

They'll eat your seahorses
Yeah you'd need a good chiller, they are a cool water animal to be sure.
Back in the day, we snagged a few oysters at an oyster-fest party, and kept them in our tank for a couple of years! Found a little crab too, and threw him in -- he loved to excavate under the rocks - it was a FO/Invert tank.
I'm sure there was a post about this kind of thing on one of the boards once...
You might be a redneck reefer if....
....you shop for livestock at the grocery store

Why not a rock lobster from down South. Doesn't have the front claws but doesn't need a chiller either.
Also for a temperate tank you would either need a thinck plexi tank or a tank w/ double pane glass otherwise it will sweat.
I actually have modified a 10 gal to be a temperate tank. I installed extra panes of glass on the inside so that in the end it was a double pane tank. Didn't sweat.

Serious, me? Nah - I appreciate the offer traip93, but don't go to any bother. I was just wondering if anyone on the board had brought home dinner, only to turn it into an pet, that's all.
Cheers...Michael
