Fish stores with live rock
Hi,
I am new to the Atlanta area (Newnan to be exact) and I'm fixing to set up a 9 gallon cadlights nano tank. I was considering ordering my live rock, but since there seems to be such a vast number of fish stores in Atlanta (and I only need a small amount) I've decided to hand pick my own. Does anyone have any suggestions on their opinion of the best place to buy live rock?
Thanks,
Stephanie

I would go to Cappuccino Bay in Marietta. They're easily the best in the Atlanta area.

Thanks for your quick reply and suggestion. I was just looking at the Cappuccino Bay website. I'll be sure and check it out.

yeah I totally agree, but if youre looking for lowest price, I'ld goto any petland, if you sign up for their petland member card which is like 10 bucks a year it'll save you quite a bit on most saltwater sales, and LR is like 5.99/lb with that discount.

I also live in Newnan, Wild Kingdom off Bullsboro drive carries it, and Pet Showcase in Tyrone does also. They are owned by the same people. excellent service, I highly recommend them.

Reefjunkie30241, is Wild Kingdom the store that is across the road from the shopping center where Taco Bell and Krystals is? If so, I've been in that store and they have a nice selection of corals. I didn't know they carried live rock so I'll definately be checking that out again when I go back. I also found another reef store going towards Thomas Crossroads (bear in mind I'm new to this area so I don't know road names just landmarks ) but I didn't check it out too thoroughly so I'm not too sure of their live rock selection either.
Thanks for the FYI on Pet Showcase in Tyrone (I'm looking up where that is now). Right now, I'm waiting for my tank from cadlights to ship. Needless to say, I'm ready to set this thing up

Yes it is in the shopping center across from taco bell. it is usually in the first tank on the right , all there rock has a lot of life on it and is cured.
The other store you are talking about is The Fish Garden, Kinda pricey for my taste, Scott at Wild Kingdom and Pet Showcase has always cut me a real good deal and his stores are always clean and I have never had a fatallity from them. Scott hand picks all his fish so none are shipped. You might want to do a post on here of what you are looking for, people are always tearing tanks down and wanting to change things, I have gotten good rock on here for 2 to 3 dollars a pound. If there is anything I can do to help let me know, my name is Joe. There are also a few other people on here from Newnan.

Stephanie,
I'm in Newnan also... I've got alot of extra rock in a stock container under 400W halides, but it doesn't have alot of coralline on it yet... I'll be tearing down my 24g and 54g tanks here shortly, the nano is loaded with coralline and my 54 has alot also... I know I'll have some extra rock when I tear them down... Also, as Joe said go see Scott, they are great people...

Joe, Wild Kingdom sounds like exactly the kind of store I like. I wasn't expecting my tank until Monday, but it showed up this morning I don't even have saltwater made up yet, but I'll be fixing that shortly. I'm heading over to Wild Kingdom today.
David, do you have an idea of when you'll be tearing down your tanks? I'd like to get my small tank cycling as soon as possible. Since my nano is only 9 gallons I won't need a lot of rock (I'm estimating at 12 lbs of rock and maybe about the same of sand) and they need to be relatively small pieces.
I had to tear down my 75 when I moved up here. Going from a house to an apartment really limited the space I had to work with. It's only taken me 2 weeks of being up here to have another tank (9 gallon cadlights). I guess once you get used to having a reef tank it just doesn't feel like home without one.
Here's a link to my other tank I had. Granted, it hasn't been updated in forever but it was still a pretty good setup.

Thanks for all the opinions of the stores in this area,
Stephanie

Heck Stephanie, if you hook up with Big D He's probably got enough sand and rock and if he did a 10 gallon water change you wouldnt have to wait for a cycle.

Darn, I wish I'd have thought of that. I just got back from Wild Kingdom. He's a really nice guy. I went there to buy salt, but they sell premade saltwater. Given that I only needed 8 gallons, I picked that up and a bag of arag-alive so I could get the tank running.
They did have a few pieces of live rock that was a good size for such a small tank, but I'm going to wait and see when David is planning on breaking down his tank(s). I'd rather have rock like his that's been in an established system.

hey steph, im also in newnan, and both stores are good, but with fish garden, you gotta haggle em down a little. i like fish gardens rock better, more to choose from, but you will get a cycle usually, but like joe mentioned, there are people around who are great help in newnan, so let us know if you need something.
