Finally got my 125 setup with HQI-Style lighting

Just finished transerring everything from my 4-month old 72 to my 125. I'm pumping 1250gph through the overflows, so my sump (relatively small 33L) is like rapids. My extra tall MR1 is plumbed externally and I'm pumping 1600 gph through it - working great so far.

The lighting will consist of a DE pendant in the middle and moguls on the ends with PC providing additional 10K and actinic lighting. I'm still working on my hood, so the lights are over the tank in a makeshift manner. The DE pedant is on the far right and seems twice as bright as the similar wattage moguls.

So far no casualties, just a lost pincher on my CB shrimp as I handled him a little rough when trying to catch him. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Wow, this hobby is addictive!

Enjoy the setup time. I thought I could do it over a weekend. It ended up taking me two weeks to get everything moved over.

Good luck with your 120. :-)

Yes, mostly southdown with a mix of medium grain aragonite sand.

I tried something different for the first time. I didn't rinse the sand at all and it clouded for just a few hours vs. days.

I got the tip from Anthony Calfo on WWM. I just turned my RO system on and let it fill the tank slowly over 2.5 days. No sandstorm to deal with. It got a little cloudy, but after 1 day of heavy skimming, it was clear.

ah sweet , so you filled it buy 1. sand in tank 2. fill with rodi 3. mix sand in tank? i was going to try and do that but i was worried about mixing the salt in the water with the sand at the bottom of the tank. hod did you cope with this?

Yes, I poured the sand in the tank, then filled with RO water. Once the tank was 3/4 full, I turned on a couple of MJ1200's and poured salt into the tank. I never mixed or stirred the sand.
