Fellow ARC Members - Can Anyone Assist Me With My AGA Overflow & Plumbing (I'll Even

Dear Members:

I am having issues with the overflow kit and overflow on my 92 gallon AGA corner tank.

I believe the overflow float has become calcium or coralline encrusted. In turn, the float is not floating. Water still drains into the sump, but a heck of a lot of noise is being created by the siphon hole on top of the float.

In addition, I would like to increase the flow rate of my return pump (MAG 9.5). I believe I read on Reef Central that you can add slots on the overflow panel to be able to do this - I am not sure how to do this.

I am extremely paranoid about messing with the overflow system because I am afraid I will create an unstoppable leak or drainage - my wife will kill me if this happens.

Your assistance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

White vinegar is recommended for calcium deposits. Do not use inside tank and rinse well before reinstallation.
A photo of the setup might help us understand the problem more clearly. Overflows make noise but I guess it is louder now than when first setup.

Hi John,

I'm not too familiar with the AGA factory standpipe so I can't offer a suggestion. I know that a lot of reefers including myself use a DIY standpipe as a replacement for the factory one. Check out this link:

Click on the link to "Durso Standpipe". This is a very easy DIY project. The standpipe has no moving parts and is almost totally silent.

a Durso won't fit in a standard AGA overflow box, but the Stockman will... I thought I had a link but I don't seem to be able to find it.

I have the 75 Gallon AGA RR. I fit a durso into my tank by cutting 1/2" off the street elbow. It fit just fine. It is nice and quiet!
