Hi Atlanta friends:

Thanks to Mike Witten for his donation of Kent and Oceanic sea salts!

So, this is the protocol for donating salts.

We will require enough salt to make 10 gallons of water per each
sample. Any size container of salt adequate to provide this amount of
saltwater can be purchased by the donating person(s) or group. We
request that slightly more of each salt be provided than is suggested
on the package or by weight capable of making 10 gallons of salt.
This is because the required amounts vary per salt.

In weight, 1,324.75 grams of salt should mix 10 gallons of water to
35ppt salinity. This is 1.325kg or 2.92 pounds of salt. I would
suggest that an excess of 20% be provided, making the amounts:

1590 grams
1.59 kilograms
3.5 pounds

The following protocol should be followed for ALL donations:

All salt samples must be from new unopened containers.

Salts should be poured directly from the container into a large new
(unused) 1 gallon Ziploc bag. Please do not use any other sort of
container unless it is new, sealed, and never opened, or unless you
know how to properly clean containers for specimen use by triple
rinsing, at least.

If the salt is not poured directly from the container, the scooping
device should be extremely clean and extremely well rinsed of any
residues.

Each bag should be labeled with the information below and sealed
immediately.

Salt brand name
Donor's name and contact information (email, phone, address, or some
way to contact you)
Vendor's name and contact information where purchased
Purchase date
size of original container from whence the sample was sent

Salt can be sent to me by contacting eborneman@uh.edu and I'll email
you my address.

Salts needed:

4 samples of Oceanic
5 samples of Tropic Marine
6 samples of Reef Crystals
8 samples of Crystal Seas Bioassay mix
9 samples Coralife
5 samples Kent
9 samples Hw Marine Mix
9 samples SeaChem
9 samples Red Sea

If you guys could help out, it would be fantastic!

Thanks!!!!
