Earthquake issues?
Hi All,
I'm out of town this week, and just heard about the earthquake in GA.
I'm wondering if I should be worried if my (in-wall) tank is cracked or if my tang is carpet surfing?
Did anyone have any damage to their tank? Did you have water on the floor? Any losses?
thanks!
Joe

Relax. I did not even feel it. I don't think that you have anything to worry about.

It woke me up but I haven't found any damage to anything yet. Most people I talked to today slept right through it.

It shook me, I woke and thought a train had collided, I live by some tracks. But there was just a low rumble. I went back to sleep not knowing what the heck it was.

I did talk to a friend that told me he was up at 4:30ish (why, I have no idea!) and he said he noticed his fish trying to get out of the tank shortly before the earthquake.... wierd, huh?
anyway, thanks for the replies! I feel better now.

I was watching a show on cable on earthquakes and some of the research, especially in Japan, are using plants and animals that show strange behavior prior to quakes. I guess it is common for Koi to show very eratic and strange behavior days before a quake hits. They want to determine if there is some unknown measurable electromagnetic or other pre-quake phenomena that can be used in quake prediction.

That's interesting... I was talking to a co-worker today, and she claimed the koi in her pond were "huddled" in a corner - and would not eat this morning.
As for my experience... Both of our parrots fell off of their perches. We didn't know there was an earthquake until listening to news radio. Until then - we didn't know why the birds freaked out.

Hey! May I pipe in here?
One of my friends up in Asheville said that slight tremors were felt way up there (though she slept right through it, hehehehe) Same for friends in Columbia. Did I feel it? Nahhh...slept like a baby until I had to make a potty run... BTW...I live right by RR tracks too, so I'm used to all kinds of noises and jostles.
I'm glad you all are ok, and that it wasn't worse.
Peace.

I felt it up here in Columbia, dont ask me why I was up at 5 this morning... My mom, who lives in norcross, said the whole house rattled for around 12 sec...(dont know about that one). But, oh, well. Thats the first one in a long time! Start building tanks on stands that can stand earthquakes....hum, sounds like a good SCAM!

I slept right through it, almost - about that time one of our cats was clawing at the window screen to get inside -- but that's normal behavior for that cat.
I've been in a few earthquakes - all the rest back home in Canada, have never FELT one - usually happen at night so I'd either sleep through them, or the one that happened during waking hours, we were in the car, and I never felt it.
No damage at home or shop - I was a bit worried about all those glass boxes at the store, but no problems.

Hey Cath,
Yup, folks up here in the NC mountains felt it. I think it woke me up - not sure, I was too sleepy. Several people from work felt it.
Been through two of those now.
