after installing my new sump i made a couple pounds of DIY base rock or as i like to call it BR ( bargain rock ) i used play sand and portland cement. mix some cement and added some sand. shaped it with my hands and put it in a bucket. looks great going to make a couple more pounds sunday and monday. then into the freshwater buckets with a powerhead and air pump.

u should have put some rock salt in the mix, that way you would have gotten little holes and crevices once it desolves...

I agree on the rock salt. I made some a couple of months ago with crushed oyster shell and portland cement, and they are way to heavy. Also, so much oyster shell makes them sharp. This weekend making it with aragonite, portland cement and rock salt. Great info on garf.org about that.

dude i wouldnt use rock salt on just the outside, the whole purpose is to make the rock lighter, and give it a sweet look...
