Disaster

I left the house early this morning and came home to find a bad smell, a wet floor and this...

Busted

close up

I put the rock in a container setup like a curing cycle

The SPSs are in the 20 gal sump and the 5 gal nano with the best of the live rock. The snails and crabs are ok it looks like.

The fish are gonners

And to top it off I came home with a nice Ricorida today.

I can't figure what happend to the tank. The area that looks like the start of the crack if covered by some wood trim.

Whaat do you think caused it? Do you think that it was done before hand and now came full circle?

I have a semi-empty 40 gallon breeder you can use if you need it. I have been there, I know it really bites......

I know that is one of my worst nightmares. I guess it happens from time to time. Any damage to the house? How big is your tank?

Out of curiosity, how old is the tank? Anything unusual that might have triggered it? Recent move? Non-level surface?

The tank and stand are five months old. The floor is level and is a slab. Not too much damage to the house since its on a slab and tile flooring. I may have to buy a new mop. I guess its good nobody was home at the time since the water came out with quite a gush - there was sand 12 feet away and the bean bag I like to nap in had a pool of water in it.

As far as the cause I think there must have been a flaw in the glass. the crack looks like it started in the corner under the plastic rim of the tank. There is not way for an impact to happen on the edge since its covered with wood trim. Nothing has been moved in the tank for over a week and nobody was home at the time except the dog and the rabbit. Thats the big downside to glass - a tiny flaw thats put under tension will spread and accelerate. I've got All-Glass's 1-800 number but I don't know what kind of hoops I will have to jump through for the warranty.

Once I get the water up I give ths stand a good check out I will go get a replacement tank. I'm not to sure about what to do with the sand in the tank. Its about 4 inches deep and is starting to smell like low tide. The corals in the sump are another question. The polyps are coming out and even the Xenia is trying to pump a little I can't leave them there when I put the return pumps back in.

Oh well back to mopping

This is the second time I've heard of this with All Glass. The other one was a 135. In that case the tank was only about a week old. All Glass also paid for damages to the guys house. I hope everything works out for you.

The nano SIG can add this to the top spot of a "one more reason to own a nano" top 10 list! T-shirt fundraiser anyone??

Incredible. My stomach just aches to see this. I'd imagine it won't be too tough to at least get a new tank from AG. But even so, I can imagine how nervous you are going to be when you fill that new tank again.

Thanks for the offer Wasabi but it may be a couple of weeks before everything’s ready for water again. Where can I find a rig like that for sale? I've been meaning to set up a quarantine tank.

Sorry about your loss. If you want to save the rest of your LR, you might be able to quickly enough mix up some saltwater in a big rubbermaid container and add a powerhead for circulation. Just a thought.
