Atlanta Reef Club
09 December 2003
Meeting held at My Reef, Lawrenceville GA
Host: Andy Daiss
Meeting announcements by club President Andy Daiss. He pointed out this is the 40th meeting of the ARC and welcomed the club to his business. His 400 gallon SPS tank with 120 gallon sump and 90-100 corals is always impressive and has shown remarkable growth since the club's last visit. He used 500 lb of Southdown sand, 300 lb of Marshall Island live rock and 2400 watts of
metal halide lighting. He tops off 10 gallons of RO/DI daily. Myreef manufactures calcium reactors, Neilsen reactors, and acrylic sumps.
Future guest speakers could include Sanjay Yoshi on lighting [possibly in May] or Martin and Barbara Moe [possibly late summer]. This is the last month of the 2003 officers and we have already had a joint BOD meeting to discuss the next year's beginning with the 2004 officers.
The photo contest for entries to be included in the calender is closed. Contact Bob Lemcke about this project. Rules are on the website and ask for 350 dpi or 8"x10" prints. He specifically asked for Nano tank photos.
Membership renewals are due at the turn of the year, and members can go on-line and use PayPal or see Sally Denismore or
William Fisher at the meetings. Regular membership is $20, $25 including Spouse or Family, and $10 for Students.
Richard Ogletree gave the Treasurer's report. The club has $3210.40
The next meeting might be at Petland. We are negotiating, so please look at the website for current details.]
Frag Fest:
The event of the evening was a swap and trade of fragmented corals. The members with established tanks brought in many of their pruning pieces. A lot of new members took home a smile and a start for their reef tanks. Without intention of overlooking someone, I want to thank Don Pelino for setting up a tank using his plug and grid system giving everyone a good look at his livestock. Richard Ogletree and Curtis Wright brought in a lot of frags. Several people thought Andy ought to reach in his big tank but he just could not be persuaded. It was a wonderful evening, the only oversight were those who overlooked the softdrinks Andy had in a large cooler; it looked a lot like the other coolers filled with corals.
