Condition of some fish at Georgia Aquarium

I finally got my season pass and took the GF there yesterday. Awesome!
I noticed that alot of the fish in the largest tank look a little torn up. Some are missing parts of their fins, others are loosing scales on their faces.....some just look likr theyve been beat up....
what gives?

Well I do know that with three on staff vets and an on site emergency room they have invested the money to keep evryone healthy. With the rush to open lots of aquariums thrust livestock into environments that aren't neccessarily ideal. I know the aquarium has refused to give behind the scenes tours for the first six months. The fish also might just be getting their pecking order worked out. I am going on Thursday and will keep an eye out for that.

The red snappers got an infection when they were introduced (possibly from the building materials). They are on the mend, but look pretty odd with white faces and torn fins.

I saw one of the horned sharks dying when I was there in early December. But I also don't expect all 100,000+ fish to survive.

He must have gotten better - I don't think they have lost any sharks.

With 85,000+ fish in the 6.2 million gallon tank alone... they're going to lose a few, sad but true... i noticed the snappers as well...

love the aquarium though, happy w/ my season pass!

It was one of the Port Jackson's over by the Sea Dragon tank. It was on it's side w/ it's mouth gasping. It may have not died, but it didn't look like it was going to make it.

That was one of the last tanks set up - just a few days before opening, and was going thru a diatom bloom - but I don't remember a shark in it -- I will check to see if it was transfered to another habitat.
