Complete systems at the LFS?

Was wondering if anyone has purchased ALL their equipment and what not from the fish stores around Atlanta. Couple of tanks have been PM'd to me but due to my hectic schedule, I can't visit to look at them. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm definately all ears!!

i havent bought more than lightbulbs when it comes to equipment from any LFS. i have either purchased used or traded from local reefers and on TRT and RC. Ebay is good if the price doesnt get bid up too high.

I know that Ocean treasures in Loganville has a Tank 180g, stand, and canopy brand new for 750$ +Tax, it's part of a store wide 30% off sale.

I bought my first reef tank a 72gallon bf rr from fish store and more and got totally ripped off. They sold me a sump that was too small to handle the back syphon during a power outage and a mag 5 pump which imo is way too small. I ended up running a mag12. Not many people at lfs will take the time to care about your system. There are maintenance companies that will build your system for you and do it right. Or you can decide what size tank you want and what you want to keep in it and people on the forums can help you decide and put together a shopping list. I have found that Bobby at Cappuccino Bay Aquariums will sell you a system for close to cost in hope that you will come back to buy his livestock (which is the best in the city) to stock your tank. Good luck. Let us know what size your looking for..........

spring for the 120gallon. 4x2x2. If you want softies go with 4 4foot vhos. If you want sps go with dual 400watt halides and 2 4foot vho actinics (and a chiller ). i would go with an ampmaster 3000 and build a 1.5 inch manifold along the back of the tank and T off it with 4 3/4inch returns to lessen the need for powerheads in the tank. use both 1" and both 3/4" bulkheads in the 120 for drains. ASM G3 skimmer. of course these are my recommendations for a swingin tank

Since I have always been particular about my setups, I don't really buy full setups. However, for the most part, I get most of my stuff from our sponsors. (Doug for light bulbs, Andy for pumps, Aviarium for tanks, FS&M for Salt, and Cap Bay for most of my chemicals) as I also enjoy looking at the live stock at fish stores. I personally feel that let them take the risk of acclimating the live stock into a system. If they are healthy in the store, odds are they will do alright in your home system. Can't really guess that from a package too well.

I will say this is that Cap bay and Aviarium actually sell their setups pretty close to cost. And if you get a big tank, you dont' have to involve insurance if it breaks or leaks. (Trust me I have found this out). I broke my 75 gal tank , which I bought new from Aviarium. It was my fault. Forgot to secure the door while bringing the tank in and it swung into the tank.

The older gentleman at Avairium (Closest sponsor to me), sold me tank at exactly his cost. He didnt have to, just knew I had bought the other tank and I didn't ask for any kind of refund. Bobby is the same way. I have never had to ask, it just happens. I can't speak enough about those folks.
