Clams
First, has anyone seen any Derasa clams around town? I checked at Marine Fish, Cap Bay, and Fish Store and More to no avail.
Secondary question (or discussion) is: I have a 15 gallon tank with a 10g for sump and 1x55 PC Daylight and 1x55 PC Actinic. Is that sufficient lighting in a 12" deep 24x12 tank to keep clams or do I really need MH lighting?
Thanks and I look forward to meeting people on the 15th.
Edit
I've seen some 10K 70 watt double-ended MH bulbs on the internet. I've never looked into if you can put a lower rated bulb in a MH fixture. Can I put a 70W bulb in a 250W Reefstar fixture?

The lighting you have should be plenty fine as long as you never let the bulbs get over 6mos old. Too much color shift and output reduction otherwise.
I'd worry more about water quality stability with that small of a water column. Make sure you keep CA over 400 and the ph in check. Once the base CA value is there, a kalk drip may be all you need.
You'll get a lot better response regarding clam keeping if you post over in the clams area.
Hth,
Dan

Thanks for the info. I figured those lights would be adequate.

I was a bit more interested in the part about anyone having found derasa clams anywhere in town. I'm having poor luck so far.

Ya know what - if you want, I'd be up for sharing an order at clamsdirect.com. They charge the same $40 for shipping whether you get one clam or ten. We could split the shipping charge and save some dough. I need another week to finish yet another tank upgrade and would be ready then if you wanted to go that route.
I work in Marietta, so I could have the order sent to my office and you could come by when it came in.
Cheers!
Dan

Btw, when did you go by Cap Bay? Someone posted earlier this week that they had tons of clams. Also, Kayla mentioned that PetLand Duluth has some clams. You may want to give them a call.

Nope, the 250W DE bulb is physically bigger than the 150 or 70W DE bulb.

I was there last Saturday.
They had a ton of clams, but I was looking for a Derasa. I had one in my last tank and it did quite well with less-than-maxima level of lighting which is what my current setup has. I didn't want to shell out $60-100 for a clam that was going to wilt and die because I didn't have a good MH setup yet.

OMG! You are so right! I must've been blinded by all that blue and didn't even notice. Sheebus!
Thanks for pointing that out.

Not sure when that picture was taken but I was there a few weeks ago and everything looked great. Chris has some really good items available and you surely can't beat his prices!
