Butterfly Question

My wife and I are thinking of setting up a second FOWLR tank for butterfly fish. We love the way they look, but they don't do so well with corals in our existing tank.

So the question is, does anyone know how well butterfly fish feed from flake food? We want to be able to use an automatic feeder for them when we travel. The other question, is how well do the different species get along together. We are looking at a small tank 20-30 gallons, so only 3-4 fish.

Thanks for the info.

-Chris

I was talking to Anthony Calfo yesterday particularly about Butterfly fish. He said the best way to get them to start eating will be to use Sweetwater zooplankton. This will get them starting to eat other foods. I would not feed a butterfly flake as they will not get the nutrition they need to not only survive but thrive.

Butterfly fish do very well on the Spectrum pelleted food. Might be a good alternative for your feeder while you are gone and you can supplement with the zooplankton when you are home. I've even had anthias do well on that stuff.
