BTA Spawning

Hi All,

Has anyone else ever seen their Anenome spawn. Last night while having guests visit we noticed my Green BTA, and for the lack of words producing smoke signals. It went on for 20+ minutes. Fish and Corals enjoying the free food.

I've seen the same BTA asexually split recently producing a number of babies.

I think I have a prolific breeder here, its definetly wanting to take over the world one way or another.

From reading last night I'm still unsure if they produce eggs and sperm or just one. Does anyone know? If it does, free BTA's alround.

I have a Haddoni carpet that spawns about every 9-11 weeks, but I haven't heard of a BTA spawning. The Haddoni has separate sexes-not sure on the BTA.

It can - and sometimes does - happen in captivity. There's a really cool pic somewhere of a BTA with eggs in its foot...if I can find it, I will post a link.

With that being said, I've never kept a BTA, but my urchins and feather dusters like to make their presence known in a similar fashion. Usually this does not have much of an effect on the water Q, but with four clams, I wouldn't want to see the results of a their spawning efforts (they trigger each other to simultaneously cloud the water)!

I can't find that pic (now that I raved about it, naturally), but here's another good link: Melev's BTA
