Bright Pink Finger Leather???

I was at a LFS and noticed they had 3 bright pink finger leather corals for sale. I was really amazed at the color on these guys and almost bought one. However, it seemed strange that I'd never encountered these colorations previously. After searching online, I found this article that said these sinularia are unnaturally dyed bright pink.

I find it really hard to believe this reputable LFS would carry these artificially dyed leathers. Does anyone know what the story is here? Are these real or not?

Note: I pulled the attached pic from the article, but the 3 in the LFS looked very similar.

They are most likely dyed. I have seen them before at reputable LFS's. Sometimes they get them in a shipment no fault of their own. That is not their natural color.....otherwise I would have bought one a long time ago!

if they are dyed, will that (1) reduce their lifespan? and (2) will the color fade like an old shirt over time?

the color will fade. Most dealers that I have seen with them were embarresed they got it in. There color wont last buy maybe a month or two. Then its just going to be plain brownish tan in color.

I saw one a while back at athens aquarium. The guy was like "dont buy it i cant believe they sent that crap to us". On a side note the people at that store are really nice about helping with stuff like that.

I saw them too and was amazed at how pink they were. Almost bought one, glad I didn't.

I don't want to say which LFS I saw it at, b/c I love the place and I don't want to bash them.

we received a few in our last shipment. sometimes when we order it might say colored sinularia, so we give a try not knowing they are dyed. too bad because they have awesome color that really stands out. i am debating taking one for my own tank even if it stays that color for just a few months.

Yeah, I saw ya'll's and was pretty amazed by the color. One of the employees told me it was dyed, which it might have been you, and wasn't trying to hide that in order to sell. So, there stayed the dyed coral and another reason why CapBay is one of my favorite LFSs.
