Black Eggcrate Order

Man, this eggcrate thread is getting really old, but I have a contact if anyone is interested.

The guy is from GE Polymer Plastics in the Atlanta area. He can get the stuff we need, but we have to order a box of 15 for it to be worth it (shipping).

It costs $12 a sheet plus shipping of $20.

I need 3 sheets (but could be coerced to buy one or two more for spares). Does anyone else need any? If we can fill an order for a box of 15, I'll order it and split the shipping amongst all orderers. It probably would not be here by Tues meeting though so if you want it before Aprils mtg, we'd have to meet in the Atlanta area (I'm in Smyrna).

As a price point, Lowes sells the white stuff for $10, so this is a decent price. Also, lifereef.com sells it for $4 a sq/ft (e.g. $32 a sheet + shipping).

The sheets are 2x4 ft. 3/8in thick. Basically the same as the white stuff at Lowes, only flat black in color.

I have heard this stuff used for drip plates, rock work framing, aquarium tops, plenums, and various strainer uses. When used inside the tank it blends in a little better than the white (so I've heard). I've seen various stores use it for in-tank display shelving for corals (Pets Unlimited in Marietta for example).

Also, for those who have frag tanks going and use the little plastic plugs like in the frag demo last month, you just stick the plug in the eggcrate shelf. Lots of flow and you don't have to find rockwork to jam it in.

I'll take 3

I would like 3 @ $12 = $36 and $20/5 =$4 shipping
Total = $40.00
If you get enough people interested. Thanks

Chris do you know what size the square openings are and if it is the "heavier" weight eggcrate? I'm looking for openings 1/2". Thanks.

Chef, I called and he said it was 1/2 in squares. The caveat is that he didn't go look it up, but knew it off the top of his head. I don't think it is the "heavier" type though. It is made from styrene, which is the same stuff that you get at Lowes. The guy who charged more up at Modern Plastics said his was made from something other than Styrene.

The way I understand it, what we are getting here is just like the eggcrate you find at Lowes, only in black. (Styrene, 2ft x 4 ft x 3/8 in thick, 1/2in squares).

Except that the stuff at Lowes, at least around here, has 5/8" holes... How soon are you going to order? I'm supposed to be getting some info from a place here today.

Maybe the guy is just being imprecise thinking a 1/8 inch isn't going to matter (does it?). For my purposes I don't care, so if you find something else similar let us know.

I'm not ordering it until I get more interest. We need 15 sheets for the order. I'll take 3-5 and Wildemon would like 3 so far.

It does, if I want to be able to use it for the fragging plugs. 5/8" holes are just big enough that the plugs can fall thru. Besides I would really prefer it heavier weight. My 110 is going to have more LR than the 55 so I would prefer it in the heavier weight eggcrate besides, "better safe than sorry"...

Update, I won't know for sure until I can call the place tomorrow. If they have it I will have it in my truck at the meeting tomorrow night. Tentative price is $12.00 - $14.00 a sheet, but I won't know till the morning (I'm going to try and haggle for less). I'll post as soon as I know for sure with all of the details. I'm going to try and leave Columbus by 1:00 / 1:30 so I can make a few stops along the way to the meeting. I should be able to post the information by 10:00 am and will check the thread before I leave. If your interested please post a response. That price would be the final price for 2'x4' sheets.

Don

I'm in. Go ahead and get me 3 sheets. Anything close to that price range is fine with me.

If you can get the grid, I would like 3 sheets for approx $40. Will bring cash in any case.
