Best skimmer for large fowlr/soft coral system?
Anybody have some input on some of the best, not the most expensive, skimmers on the market these days. I am workin on a shark/some soft coral system and looking for a skimmer to run things. Not lookin to pay mucho $$$$ for a skimmer. I have seen some of the berlins for reasonable prices, just looking for some input and exp from you guys.

The stuff I've read and heard on sharks all say they are MESSY!
A very good skimmer is a must. They eat messy leaving scraps floating around and poop a lot!
MR skimmers are always a good choice. www.myreefcreations.com
Do you like your Trumpit?
I have 4 harleys

Like the Triumph, but selling to get something a little better for riding wheelies and stoppies...would not get on a harley. I have had the chance at my police dept and have waited till they complete therir conversion to BMW's and Honda ST1100p's Just not big on cruisers. But to each their own. i have many friends that ride harley's. But for me, over priced, under powered, too heavy, don't handle, and just plain not what I like. But i have seen some very cool customs out of the standard harley style engine.

PS those look like some nice skimmers on his site, but just don't have $300 extra to spend on a skimmer at this time. Maybe I'll deal with light skimming till I can work up the cash to afford that class of skimmer...or find one used.

Over priced: Absolutly! My 53 pan head is worth 5X as much now as it went for new.
Underpowerd?: Depends how you messure power two of my bike generate 100 HP @ the rear wheel (not at crank like they messure imports) I can put two chicks on my bike and not notice a differance. Extra 100 pounds on an import and you lose 20%
But if you want fast in corners, imports are the only way.
Have you tried a Buell or V-Rod?
I'm a V-twin man have been since I was 14 ( 42 now)

IMO a skimmer is not the place to skimp. If you've ever smelled what the good ones pull out you'll know why. I would suggest saving or whatever you have to do to afford a good skimmer. If you haven't noticed I am partial to EuroReef .

Actually my bike puts out 135 hp at the rear (after a pipe and retune of the fuel injection system...120 stock) AND it only weighs 435 lbs :O Put a chick on the back and I don't really notice anything. Now compare that to a bike with 100+ hp at the rear and weighs 800 lbs. Close to the same hp but wieghs almost 2x as much.
As for the skimmer getting one that someone will stand behind is important maybe I will save as the tank cycles and get a good one.

I am using an ETSS Reefdevil, which works pretty okay. I am wanting to go towards MR skimmers, but that is further down the road, once we get the new house under control.
I have heard good things about the turbofloater, tunze, and euroreef.
I am personally not crazy about seaclones, prizms, cpr bakpaks even they they work fine for nanos.

I hate to admit it. But I haven't been skimming for about a year now. But I only have about 5 fish in a 55 gallon and I feed sparingly. You can try it without one but it depends on your rock and bio-load.
Good luck with it.....I chose the turboflotor...Though I haven't hooked it up yet...Cost me about $240 but you can find it cheaper.

As for the Harley's our department uses, we rent them to the best of my knowledge. Not sure what is done with them, but I believe we send them back to the dealership each year and get new ones. New they go for over $20,000 for the models our pd uses. We are probably switching to the ST1100P's because they are 10k cheaper, 300 lbs lighter, more hp and better handling. All around just a better police bike.
Thanks for all the input on the various types of skimmers guys. I am going to use a smaller one for now, a bak pak that I already have, and wait for the cash to get one of the big boys. All the fishes I plan to introduce are going to be small at first (small damsels and such to cycle), so the bio load should not be too terrible. Know I'll proly get talked to about this, but I find using fish to cycle works well and I usually don't have much die off since I am starting with live sand and some live rock. Already cycled my holding tank in this manner with only one dead fish.
But if anyone has a LARGE skimmer sitting around that would be suitable for a 180 gallon with a heavier bio load, please let me know. Either PM or e-mail.

I think I would.
Didn't you have some skimmers you wanted to sell?

Ya know, speaking of the above post, never tried two chicks on the back...have thrown one off though, lol, my current fiancee on our first date! She stuck with me though so I decided to keep her.
