That is one big ship. I wonder how many frags it would hold...

Looks awefully square to me.... someone should tell them that there have been advances in boat designs in the past 1000 years...

Although it is fitting that it's shaped like a big aquarium....

It is actually a floating dry dock I think. The ARC stands for something Shipyard related but I have seen the USS Narwhal inside of there before. I believe that is the same thing that we used to replace the broken shaft on the USS Sturgeon as well. The funny thing about that was while we were draining the water, I was one of the divers on the front stanchion, the divers on the rear stanchions starting leaping out of the water. Turns out a 4 ft long aligator climbed into the boat at the Naval Weapons Station Pier and was trapped when we closed the gates after pulling in our submarines. DNR had to come and get the gator before we could complete our haul out.

Actually it transports cars. But Ray, we got to hear more about being up to your *** in alligators story!

We have another member Thom Patterson that is an ex-Navy diver -- any more out there?

yep RORO = roll on roll off ship. as a side note, the US military does own 4 of these type ships, operated by the US military sealift command. they are always stationed around the world waiting for a hot spot to pop up. they carry all the vehicles for an invation force ready to go so that we dont have to fly all of them over in cargo planes.
