Cool. But I'm just not sure how long they would last; I would be driving to your house every week

Petland sells live brine shrimp...do you think a mandarin would eat that as a substitute to pods (I do have some in my tank, but not enough to keep one happy or healthy)?
Thanks

Under the Wave sells brine as well, typically better quality brine and a similar cost.

Would that work as a substitute for pods when feeding a mandarin? I am looking for a good food source since my tank is only 46 gallons. Thanks

I came across this place while looking for other info. They offer a variety of live food. I have not done business with them nor do I know if the prices are fair. located in florida so at least delivery should be fast. http://www.aquaculturestore.com/swinverts.html

CBA has ghost shrimp for 4 per dollar. FS&M ghost shrimp are mostly nice sized as are CBA shrimp.

Yep some do, but I heard that LBS does not have enough nutrients to support a mandarin...they need more. Is this true? thanks.

Yah that is generally true from what I have read. I have a scooter blenny that has the same diet requirements as a mandarin and I am starting to worry. My scooter has started to eat brine but he doesnt eat every one he finds, just a few randomly selected ones. I thought his selection was based on size selection but it seems more like random eating. Im wondering if I put ghost shrimp in the main tank and the HOB refuge that they may reproduce easily and provide a food source. even if the adult ghost srimp are too large (dont actually know) at least their offspring would be smaller.

Well I hadn't heard about mandarins eating ghost shrimp. LBS is a good quick food, but it lacks the nutrients needed, so basically it's like eating potato chips all day every day I guess. LBS is the best, but unfortunatley it's also the hardest to find.
I have a refugium set up now, so I may order some pods from inlandaquatics and put them in there for a month or so. Then I may try the mandarin after that and hope all goes well. Maybe I'll get lucky and he'll accept frozen foods in addition to the pods. thanks again for the help everyone.
