I believe various gases are stored at different pressures and so you may not be able to use one bottle for other gases. A refill place would be able to tell you for sure. If the gas you want to use is refilled to a higher pressure than what the bottle is hydrotested at, you wont be able to get it refilled with the different gas. also, some tanks have feed tubes to draw from the bottom of a tank and others dont. that will also affect what can be put into the tank.

Residue may be the issue, even though you put a new type of gas is there a residue left by the other gas?

I'd not recommend it. I know I'd not use my nitrous bottle & try to fill it for the fish or my co2 bottle in the car with nitrous. I know some guys who have all sorts of systems in their cars, again - different bottle than what they have nitrous in. Might be OK, but I'd not risk it.

HTH,
Chris

I PROBABLY SHOULD NOT TELL THIS ONE...back when i was a teenager we aquired a very large bottle of nitrous(5 feet tall) from the local hospital. we were taking it to a graduation party to fill balloons...one of the clowns we were riding with decided it would be cool to open the valve and fill the car up...it was going along fine untill someone noticed the car had left the roadway on inter state 85 the driver was unconscious. we barely made it out of that one without a darwin award(posthumously)

Wasabi - That's definitely not good. Sorry about that. I would have guessed if anything it would have gone the other way around, didn't think the puffer was that mean. Guess so. :-(
